Fire Force Season 3 Episode 5: Shocking Power Ups and Unforgettable Battles!

Summary

  • Captain Obi’s muscles save the day – no Infernal transformation due to his insane strength.
  • Arthur faces a formidable foe, Dragon, showcasing his power linked to imagination.
  • Shinra and Joker battle Captain Burns, setting up a fiery showdown in Episode 6.

The third season, episode 5 of Fire Force, entitled “An Unforeseen Encounter with an Arch-Enemy,” surprises viewers right from the start. An apparent heartrending cliffhanger in the previous episode – Captain Obi transforming into an Infernal – is actually a prelude to one of the funniest and most peculiar scenes the series has produced so far. Instead of exploding, Captain Obi’s intense workout regimen miraculously preserves his life. His muscles are so powerful that the bug cannot bore into him.

The scenario unfolds in a familiar fashion reminiscent of “Fire Force,” blending elements of the absurd and genius. However, moments of humor are fleeting. A fresh peril emerges – an extraordinarily powerful White-Clad stranger – leaving Company 8 outclassed. With noble resolve, Arthur takes center stage. The ensuing fight is grandiose, Hibana uncovers crucial information, and hints drop suggesting a significant transformation is on the horizon.

Spoiler Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Fire Force episode 5, season 3.

Fire Force Season 3, Episode 5 Has One of the Series’ Strongest Power-Ups Yet

Captain Obi’s Muscles Save the Day

The story resumes immediately from where it ended previously: Obi remains shackled to a post, vocalizing distressfully as he undergoes metamorphosis into an Infernal. However, an unexpected occurrence takes place—the transformation doesn’t proceed as anticipated. Instead, his body, incredibly muscular and robust, proves impenetrable. The insect is unable to burrow into him.

His muscles are so tough, the Insect can’t penetrate!

In this scene, Obi adopts a pose to thwart the situation, which is met with enthusiastic encouragement from Company 8, as if he’s participating in a bodybuilding contest. This moment of levity amidst tension is amusing, yet it also demonstrates clever storytelling. Though everyone realizes that Obi can’t maintain this stance indefinitely, the scene effectively increases the sense of urgency. Remarkably, the show excels at combining humor and intensity, a feat not commonly achieved in many animes.

Arthur vs Dragon: Knight Meets Monster

Arthur’s Power Rises With His Imagination

Enters a colossal, fear-inspiring soldier clad in white, hailing from Company 8’s ranks – the mightiest they’ve ever encountered. He’s a formidable figure who prefers action over idle chatter. With minimal effort, he reduces most of Company 8 to nothing more than a memory.

Arthur undoubtedly views this as his fate. After all, a knight is supposed to battle a dragon, according to the rules, as far as he’s concerned.

His output has increased even more. He’s incredible!

Arthur’s strength is closely linked to his unwavering conviction in his own illusion. The deeper he immerses himself in this belief, the stronger he becomes. He fully commits – brandishing his sword, delivering grand speeches, exuding a powerful aura reminiscent of King Arthur. His plasma blade expands to unprecedented sizes. In essence, it’s as if we are witnessing an epically grand spectacle.

However, Arthur’s attacks seem to have little effect on Dragon, as they appear to ricochet off without causing damage. Excalibur cracks under the strain, and Arthur is sent tumbling to the ground, wounded and disoriented. The anticipated excitement fails to materialize because Dragon seems uninterested in theatricality.

The dragon is discovered to be a hybrid or an advanced form, capable of transforming into a part Infernal being at its own will. This transformation doesn’t seem to affect its mental and physical control, implying a unique origin—perhaps it was artificially created or experimented upon using Adolla energy or by the White-Clad.

Because when Arthur demonstrates progress, such as unveiling a new plasma cloak, it continues to seem like the first round of a significantly larger battle that lies ahead.

The Battle That Stole the Show: Shinra vs Burns

Finally, Some Fire

As Arthur and Dragon engage in combat, Shinra and Joker take independent action, joining forces to strike Captain Burns. The series saves its most impactful visual effect for this pivotal scene. In a blaze of fire, Burns and Shinra collide violently inside a structure, creating a battle that truly lives up to the Fire Force title. The animation intensifies, the tension escalates, and it seems that the climactic event of Episode 6 will be this confrontation.

In this battle, Burns begins to amplify his powers, surpassing previous limits. However, Shinra remains unfazed. Unlike Arthur’s turbulent skirmish, the intensity of this confrontation is palpable and noticeable.

Princess Hibana Gets Closer to the Truth

Essentially, Doppelganger refers to a being that resembles you closely, but these entities originate from a different realm called Adolla, not demons as such. However, it’s more accurate to say they seek to deceive or impersonate the real individuals rather than trying to kill them in order to take their identities.

Amidst the turmoil, Princess Hibana stealthily moves closer to unraveling one of the show’s main enigmas. She discovers an association between Infernals, doppelgangers, and the church where she and Iris were raised. It’s a subtle revelation, yet its implications are profound.

Though she hasn’t cracked the case so far, there’s no doubt in my mind that Hibana is the one who will unravel the enigma surrounding these human combustions. Her hypothesis suggests that the beings from Adolla called Infernals are attempting to disguise themselves as genuine individuals. True to form for a doppelganger, they kill the original person in order to assume their identity.

Discovering the true nature of doppelgangers could potentially help me unravel the enigma surrounding spontaneous combustion as well!

The Ending: Setting the Stage for Something Bigger

A Slow Burn That Might Pay Off

From my perspective as an observer, Fire Force season 3, episode 5 concludes with the narrative skillfully balancing three significant storylines: Obi’s desperate struggle for survival, Arthur confronting his toughest challenge yet, and Shinra gearing up for his most daunting battle. It’s a complex mix, and while it’s engaging, not all parts resonate equally. The narrative rhythm falters, particularly during the Arthur-Dragon fight sequence, where an excess of preliminary stages seems to detract from the impact of the climax.

However, all the necessary elements have been set up. The dragon’s true nature as a part-Infernal being, Arthur gaining new powers, Hibana’s breakthrough, and Burns vs Shinra – these are significant developments. This episode seems to be serving as a link. It may not be entirely fulfilling on its own, but it could be crucial for what lies ahead.

If episode 6 can cash in on what episode 5 sets up, it could be the turning point season 3 needs.
