Summary

  • A number of Ubisoft’s major productions have been delayed to 2026-2027 for more polish.
  • This follows the successful launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was delayed twice.
  • The trend of longer development cycles should in better-received titles for Ubisoft at launch.

As a dedicated fan, I’m sharing some exciting news about my favorite gaming giant, Ubisoft. They’ve just announced that a few of their monumental projects are getting pushed back to 2026 and 2027. This decision came after the triumphant launch of ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’, which was an outstanding success for Ubisoft.

In March 2025, after two delays for refinement and enhancement of game quality, Ubisoft launched “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”. The strategy proved successful as it soon climbed the bestseller list, landing just below the highly acclaimed “Monster Hunter Wilds” in sales.

Currently, Ubisoft has announced that some of their major projects are being pushed back to ensure additional development time and perfection, with releases scheduled for 2026 and 2027. Although Ubisoft hasn’t disclosed the complete list of impacted games, their CEO, Yves Guillemot, hinted at titles from popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six, The Division, and Ghost Recon. This strategic shift occurred post the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with Guillemot deeming it beneficial to delay the game for optimal chances of success. Contrary to this, titles such as the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake are still set to launch in Ubisoft’s 2025 fiscal year, wrapping up in March 2026. Among the games scheduled for release by this date are Anno 117: Pax Romana, Rainbow Six Mobile, and The Division Resurgence.

Ubisoft Delays Multiple Games, But Long-Delayed Prince of Persia Remake Is Still Coming in 2025

Although some gamers might feel disappointed by the reduced game selection, this strategy may actually boost Ubisoft’s titles. Rapid production timelines for previous games like the critically panned and bug-ridden “Assassin’s Creed Unity” have had a detrimental impact on their market performance. Slowing down the release pace could potentially lead to improved results, as games with higher quality would be more appealing when they eventually hit the shelves.

Apart from this recent change, Ubisoft has also taken a significant step in the past year. They have chosen to establish a new branch to manage their most successful intellectual properties – namely, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. This new division will receive a $1.25 billion investment from Tencent, giving them a 25% ownership stake in the company. During their financial report, Ubisoft shared with investors that this subsidiary aims to enhance the quality of story-driven games, live services, and tap into underdeveloped markets such as China.
