Studio Founder Leaves Company Even Before First Game Gets Released

Although Haven Studios hasn’t launched its inaugural game on Sony as of now, it seems that its founder, Jade Raymond, has already departed from the company. At present, Haven Studios continues to develop their online multiplayer game, Fairgame$, which was unveiled in 2023.

According to a trustworthy report by Jason Schreier at Bloomberg (requires subscription), the information gleaned from internal correspondence portrays a bleak outlook for Fairgame$.

Raymond Leaves Studo Even Before Fairgame$ Gets A Release Date

The report indicates that PlayStation management didn’t provide a rationale for Raymond’s departure from Haven Studios. However, it’s worth noting that Raymond recently left the company following several weeks of external playtesting for Fairgame$. It’s been suggested by informed sources within the studio that some developers had apprehensions about the game’s reception and its development progress.

A representative from Sony (PlayStation) acknowledged that Jade Raymond had left and added, “Jade Raymond was instrumental in launching Haven Studios and has been an inspiring driving force. We appreciate her guidance and accomplishments with us, and we extend our warmest wishes to her as she embarks on a new journey.

The representative announced that PlayStation remains dedicated to working alongside Haven Studios, and they are thrilled to carry on this adventure with the new co-heads of the studio, Marie-Eve Danis and Pierre-François Sapinski.

2023 saw the reveal of Fairgame$, one of the select live-service games Sony’s team is working on. After the rocky launch of Concord, where its servers were shut down mere days after release, Sony scrapped two other live-service projects from Bend Studio (Days Gone) and Bluepoint Games (Demon’s Souls remake). As a gamer, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this new game will deliver a better experience.

The recent update on Fairgame$ indicates that the game might not be coming out as originally planned in fall 2025 due to a delay. Since there has been little news about it for quite some time, and considering the situation with Concord, we wouldn’t be taken aback by this possibility.

As a dedicated admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the incredible journey of Jade Raymond. She first captured our attention at Ubisoft by masterminding Assassin’s Creed and serving as Executive Producer for Assassin’s Creed 2, AC: Bloodlines, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The last game she brought to life under the Ubisoft banner was The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot in 2015. In that role, she excelled as Executive Producer at Ubisoft Montreal. Subsequently, she made a bold leap to EA, where she held the position of SVP Group General Manager. Most recently, in 2021, she embarked on a new adventure as the founder of Haven Studios. Her contributions to gaming are truly epic!
