Horror enthusiasts and fans of gore will be thrilled with the upcoming movie “Final Destination Bloodlines“. This is the sixth part of the popular Final Destination series created by Jeffrey Riddick, which returns after 14 years since the release of Final Destination 5 in 2011. The film, set to be released on May 16, 2025, promises new and inventive (and potentially nauseating) methods for Death to claim its victims. It is directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, and the script was written by Guy Busic and Lori Evans Taylor, with a story they developed in collaboration with Jon Watts.
Originally marketed as a fresh take on the series following the achievement of the fifth Final Destination movie, it eventually transformed into a continuation of the saga, tying in with past occurrences and characters, and welcoming back Tony Todd for his last portrayal of William Bludworth. This film, featuring Kaitlyn Santa Juana as the main character, currently boasts a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 92%, making it one of the highest-rated films in the series. It has earned accolades for its initial prophetic sequence, but its ending has sparked varying opinions.
As a devoted fan, I must say that Final Destination 6 largely adheres to the established pattern of this thrilling franchise. The main character experiences a chilling premonition where they and those close to them meet grisly ends, but luckily they manage to act swiftly enough to avoid the initial disaster. However, Death isn’t one to be outsmarted easily, and it sets out to correct its plans by targeting these survivors in ingenious ways. It’s a dangerous game of cat and mouse, as those who dared to cheat Death must now play by its rules while figuring out how to evade its relentless pursuit.
What Happens In Final Destination Bloodlines?
The movie begins in 1968, featuring one of the most striking foreshadowing scenes in the series. The protagonist, Iris Campbell (played by Brec Bassinger), and her boyfriend Paul (Man Lloyd-Jones) are at the unveiling of the Skyview Tower Restaurant. In a chilling turn of events, Iris experiences a recurring nightmare, where she foresees a child’s prank with a penny causing the tower to crumble, leading to a tragic outcome for everyone, including her. However, it is later revealed that this premonition belongs not to Iris, but to her granddaughter Stefani Reyes (portrayed by Juana), who is a college student at the time.
Stefani locates her long-lost grandmother, Gabrielle Rose, who turns out to be extremely fearful of death and believes it’s always lurking nearby. She resides in a secluded cabin surrounded by danger traps, preferring to stay inside to evade Death. She has written a manual detailing how to decipher symbols and patterns predicting when, where, and how Death might occur, which she wants Stefani to have. When Stefani doubts her claims and attempts to flee, Iris deliberately puts herself in harm’s way to demonstrate the truth.
Stefani has started to accept the idea that her grandmother’s prediction is true – those whom Iris saved at Skyview and their descendants, who shouldn’t have lived, are being targeted by Death as part of a correction. Iris managed to ward off death for so long, but with her gone, Stefani fears that her own family will be the next to fall victim. Now, Stefani must return home and attempt to persuade her uncle Howard (Alex Zahara), his children Erik (Richard Harmon), Julia (Anna Lore), and Bobby (Owen Patrick Joyner), her estranged mother Darlene (Rya Kihlstedt), and her younger brother Charlie (Teo Briones) that their lives are in danger. However, Stefani’s father, Marty (Tinpo Lee), and her aunt Brenda (April Telek) will likely be spared since they aren’t related by blood.
Despite Howard’s tragic lawnmower accident at the family barbecue resulting in his death, no one trusts Stefani’s claims. Remarkably, Howard’s eldest son, Erik, seems to have defied death twice, uncovering a startling family secret. Unfortunately, Julia doesn’t escape such misfortunes. As Stefani had foreseen based on Iris’ book, she meets her end when crushed by a garbage disposal. In response, cousins Charlie and Stefani’s mother, Darlene, join forces to protect cousin Bobby.
In the hospital, they track down Iris’ acquaintance JB, who is revealed to be William Bludworth (Todd), the boy Iris had rescued in 1968. This provides insight into the recurring character’s past. Bludworth suggests a poignant parting thought: “Only fresh life can conquer death.” This notion sparks Erik’s outlandish plan to save Bobby by inducing medical death, then reviving him to escape Death’s pursuit for the entire family. Unfortunately, their strategy goes awry, and not only does Bobby meet a tragic end, but Erik perishes in a shocking accident involving the MRI machine.
How Does Final Destination Bloodlines End?

In this movie similar to “Final Destination,” the ending is clearly predictable. However, don’t be fooled by the foreseeable outcome; the deaths are gruesome. With their family line erased, it’s now Darlene, Stefani and Charlie’s mother’s turn to meet her demise. To evade Death reaching her children, Darlene decides to live in seclusion at Iris’ fortified cabin. Unfortunately, as they approach the cabin in Darlene’s RV, it collides upon pushing through the locked gates, trapping Stefani with a malfunctioning seatbelt. Despite Darlene and Charlie’s attempts to escape, Death has already set a trap for them at the cottage entrance.
In a tragic turn of events, the cottage bursts into flames, causing an explosion that sends the RV hurtling towards a nearby body of water. Stefani finds herself in danger of drowning as chaos ensues due to the fire and destruction. Charlie and Darlene struggle against death’s relentless pursuit, with Darlene heroically freeing Charlie from debris, but she meets her end moments later when struck by a falling lamp post.
Stefani is left unconscious in the water, until Charlie miraculously frees her from her seatbelt and pulls her to safety. He performs CPR on her, thereby bringing her back to life—as JB had foretold, Stefani dies and is reborn, and her new life grants them both immunity from Death’s grasp.
A short while after Charlie’s senior prom, on that very day, Marty presents the group to a character named “Dr. Reddick” (a tribute to the franchise’s creator). This person informs Stefani that she wasn’t truly dead but had merely been unconscious during the drowning incident. Taken aback, Stefani and Charlie come to the startling conclusion that Death may still be pursuing them. Moments later, a train comes off the tracks (a reference to “Final Destination 3”) and crashes into their neighborhood. The siblings miraculously escape, but tragically, in a nod to “Final Destination 2”, the train’s cargo of logs dislodges and falls on Stefani and Charlie, ending Iris’ lineage.
In the closing scenes, a crimson line traces across the visuals, connecting “Bloodlines” as a prequel to the “Final Destination” series. Characters who perished in earlier films could potentially be descendants of those spared by Iris’s foresight at the Skyview hotel, suggesting that the entire franchise represents Death adjusting its plan initially set in 1968.
