Summary
- You can save Emperor Uriel Septim in Oblivion, as showcased by a YouTuber called Bacon.
- By clipping through the map in a specific area, you can drop behind the Emperor’s assassin and kill him before he commits regicide.
- While the game will still act as though the Emperor is dead, you can use the Command Humanoid spell to force him to follow you.
In The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, you’re granted near-limitless choice in how you play, yet each adventure commences identically despite your plans. You create your character, often a rather unattractive being, who is helped by the Emperor to break free from prison, flee with him to the sewers, and witness his death at the hands of an assassin.
As the game begins, Emperor Uriel Septim’s tragic demise sets off your epic journey – a quest that many choose to bypass. However, there have always been gamers intrigued by the possibility of defying his predestined fate. Typically, you interact with the Emperor to obtain his Amulet, but then you’re left helplessly stationary, unable to prevent the assassin from striking. But one player has achieved the unthinkable.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Fan Actually Manages To Save The Emperor
Recently, I stumbled upon an intriguing trick shared by a renowned Oblivion YouTuber, Bacon (thanks to PC Gamer). What’s fascinating is that without any mods or additional content, it’s possible to save the Emperor in the original game! Here’s the gist: Follow the path shown in Bacon’s video, find the corner he indicates, save your game there, then reload to pass through the door and fall beneath the map. Quite a hidden gem for us fans, isn’t it?
To regain your position, you can catch up on the assassin stealthily. Interestingly, Bacon had a conversation with the man who attempted to kill the Emperor, yet he seemed as if the Emperor was already deceased, which could be delusion or extreme self-assurance. By eliminating the assassin, you would have rescued Emperor Uriel Septim, but unfortunately, the game won’t acknowledge your successful action.
Despite the Emperor being present before his eyes, Baurus remains convinced he’s deceased. Go about the game as usual. But, should you deliver the Amulet of Kings to Jauffrey according to plan, the sewers will remain sealed, with the Emperor confined within them.
To successfully cast the Command Humanoid spell, requiring an adequate Illusion ability (which can be acquired from the Mage’s Guild), you may then re-enter the sewers before returning the Amulet of Kings to compel the Emperor to follow behind you. He’ll behave like a misplaced child, sticking close to your heels. Once the spell expires, he will remain stationary at whichever location you position him. Your mission is now complete.
