Sunderfolk Gets Major May 2025 Update Fixing Bugs and Improving Gameplay

Summary

  • Sunderfolk Hotfix update is now available for download, marking the tactical RPG’s second patch since its April release.
  • The new version of Sunderfolk addresses some annoying technical issues, promising an easier onboarding experience and fewer crashes.
  • Developer Secret Door is currently investigating more than 50 other issues that players have reported since Sunderfolk’s release.

I’m super excited to share that the 1.2.1 update for my favorite game, Sunderfolk, is now ready for download! This is our second update, and it’s tackling some pesky technical hiccups that have been bothering us all. Whether you’re on PC or console, there are fixes in store for everyone!

The game titled “Sunderfolk” is a tactical RPG reminiscent of “Dungeons and Dragons”, offering an unusual control mechanism where smartphones and tablets can be utilized as controllers through a mobile app. This innovative title was the inaugural release from Secret Door, Dreamhaven’s studio, and became available on April 23 across multiple platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Two weeks post-launch, the developers based in Irvine introduced the game’s first update – patch 1.2 – which resolved over a dozen bugs, rebalanced skills, and rectified discrepancies in some of the game’s card descriptions.

In around two weeks’ time, Sunderfolk received another round of updates, distributed across all versions of the game towards mid-May 2025. This update incremented the version number to 1.2.1, hinting at a more modest release compared to the previous 1.2 update. It brought along just a few adjustments, but the fixes highlighted in the patch notes tackled some significant technical glitches. These improvements may have positively impacted the core gaming experience of Sunderfolk.

Sunderfolk Fixes QR Code Bug, Steam Deck Issues, Leveling Rewards, and More

As a gamer diving into the latest update, I’m thrilled about two game-changing features that are cross-platform compatible. Firstly, they’ve tackled an issue where certain players couldn’t view a QR code on the main menu, which was causing some hassle. Now that this bug is squashed, Sunderfolk should provide a smoother onboarding process for newcomers. The QR code serves as a quick gateway to its mobile app. Secondly, they’ve revamped leveling rewards, making them more accurate. This means that unclaimed Sunderfolk Heroes who earn multiple levels with Passive upgrades and expanded hand sizes will now receive the correct rewards. Happy gaming!

This 1.2.1 update addresses two primary issues for Steam Deck users:

1. It resolves an occasional freeze during startup, ensuring a smoother booting process.
2. It adjusts the game’s resolution settings so that altering them now produces the anticipated results on Valve’s handheld device.

Additionally, this update fixes an authentication problem that was preventing certain players from connecting to Dreamhaven’s servers to verify their Steam or Xbox/Microsoft Store game licenses.

Currently, Secret Door is delving into more than 50 concerns that players have brought up since the game’s debut. These issues encompass Nintendo Switch-specific game crashes, stuttering dialogue, absent visual assets, and malfunctioning Smithy upgrades. Additionally, there seems to be an issue related to OAuth2 implementation, which may be causing the game to fail in recognizing a linked Steam account.
