20th May appears quite packed for PlayStation Plus, with a mix of games entering and leaving the subscription service library. On that day, fresh games are expected to join the catalog accessible to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members, while some older titles will depart and become unavailable unless subscribers decide to buy them individually.
To ensure that PlayStation Plus subscribers continue enjoying their service, Sony distributes game updates gradually across each month. For those at the Essential tier, the free PS Plus games for May 2025 were accessible starting on May 6, which included titles like Balatro, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, and Ark: Survival Ascended. Subscribers at the higher Extra and Premium tiers have to wait until mid-month for their updates on game catalogs, free trials, and premium streaming games.
As a PS Plus Extra and Premium subscriber, I’m stoked about the diverse lineup of games coming our way! I can’t wait to dive into the World War 2-themed Battlefield 5 and give Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, the updated version of the popular fighting game by Arc System Works, a try.
Sand Land, an exciting sci-fi action RPG from the late Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, also catches my eye. And for all you STALKER fans out there, get ready because the Legends of the Zone Trilogy is here, serving as a prequel to the upcoming STALKER 2.
Other PS Plus Extra games for May 2025 include Five Nights At Freddy’s: Help Wanted Full Time Edition, Gloomhaven Mercenaries Edition, Humankind, Soul Hackers 2, and Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. I can hardly wait to explore them all!

In simpler terms, new additions to our top-tier collection often include older video games that were released before PlayStation 4, which are accessible through an exclusive streaming service. This month’s addition is the less mainstream mech action game, _Battle Engine Aquila_. Players get to control a towering Battle Engine robot in a chaotic battlefield, battling against enemy soldiers and vehicles. Similar to other games featuring transforming robots, the Battle Engine can shift between walking mode and flying jet mode. There are various types of Battle Engines designed to cater to diverse playstyles.
At the beginning of this month, several PlayStation Plus subscribers found out that a substantial number of games – 22 in total – would be taken off the PS Plus game library on May 20th. Among these are popular Sony-made titles such as Resistance 2 and Infamous Second Son, along with others like Batman: Arkham Knight, Grand Theft Auto V, and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (a VR exclusive). On that day, you’ll need to purchase these games if you want to continue playing them.
