As video game development progresses, creators are increasingly devoted to incorporating compelling narratives through voice acting. Whether it’s first-person shooters or role-playing games, numerous celebrities have contributed their voices and likenesses to a variety of in-game characters, enhancing the thrill and allure of the gaming world.
In the realm of voice acting for video games, legends like Jennifer Hale and Troy Baker hold a special place. Yet, it’s not just these professionals who shine; numerous celebrities have also demonstrated their talents in this field. Their performances can be on par with those of seasoned voice actors, as they frequently portray main characters or assume crucial roles that amplify player engagement.
10. Enslaved: Odyssey To The West
Andy Serkis Continues To Be A Performance Capture Master
As a game enthusiast, I was initially captivated by the idea of Enslaved: Odyssey To The West being a high-definition CG film. But luckily for me, it transformed into an epic third-person action adventure game instead! In this post-apocalyptic universe, I guide Monkey and his companion Trip through overgrown cities and forests, navigating platforms, battling enemies, and solving puzzles to reach her home.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but be amazed by Andy Serkis’s exceptional performance as Monkey in “Enslaved”. After all, he had already set new standards for motion capture acting with his iconic roles like Gollum in the “The Lord of the Rings” series. It was only natural that he brought the same level of dedication to this game. Andy Serkis has a knack for breathing life into unforgettable characters, such as Caesar in the “Planet of the Apes” films, Alfred in “The Batman”, and Ulysses Klaue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
9. Alone In The Dark
Fight Against Horrors As David Harbour Or Jodie Comer
The genre of survival horror in video games can be traced back to the game “Alone In The Dark”, which was reimagined in 2024 to recapture the classic 1930s aesthetic and haunting gothic atmosphere, but with a contemporary twist. It also incorporated the third-person shooter camera style similar to “Resident Evil” or “Dead Space” for a more action-oriented gameplay experience while still preserving the fear factor.
In the revamped edition of the initial game, gamers have the option to select from two main characters: either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood. For this version, both characters are made more lifelike through motion capture technology. David Harbour, famous for his roles in “Stranger Things” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrays Edward. On the other hand, Jodie Comer, who gained recognition for her performances in “The Last Duel” and the film inspired by video games, “Free Guy,” plays Emily.
8. Call Of Duty: Black Ops
Call Of Duty Always Feels Like An Action Movie
In the popular “Call of Duty” series, several famous personalities have made appearances across various campaigns. However, in “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” players step into the shoes of Alex Mason, a character played by Sam Worthington. During the mid to late 2000s, it was tough not to spot Sam Worthington everywhere, as he was a leading actor in movies like James Cameron’s “Avatar,” “Terminator Salvation,” and “Clash of the Titans,” among many others.
In the heat of Call of Duty: Black Ops, I, Alex Mason, was a standout character, immersed in a gripping Cold War narrative that took us from the jungles of Vietnam to the shores of Cuba and beyond for clandestine missions. The likes of Ed Harris, Gary Oldman, and Ice Cube were there too, adding star power to our team.
7. The Quarry
An Ensemble Of Actors Harkens Back To Classic Horror
Supermassive Games has crafted numerous games with well-known personalities, creating an immersive experience akin to interactive horror films, including ‘Until Dawn’. They took things up a notch with ‘The Quarry’, a tribute to the classic 80s and 90s horror movies, complete with actors from that period, such as Lance Henriksen, Ted Raimi, and David Arquette.
The star-studded cast of “The Quarry” comprises Justice Smith, Halston Sage, Lin Shaye, Skyler Gisondo, and Brenda Song. This thrilling game compels players to carefully consider their actions and dialogue choices, as one misstep could result in a character meeting an untimely end at the hands of werewolves or other supernatural horrors lurking in the shadows during the night.
6. RoboCop: Rogue City
Peter Weller Will Always Be RoboCop
In the tradition of the cherished films, RoboCop: Rogue City provides a genuine sense of being a relentless cyborg, capable of swiftly taking down criminals. The crime investigation aspects incorporate casual inquiries and interrogations for various cases within Detroit, offering additional content beyond the engaging first-person shooter scenarios.
Yet, what makes this even more exciting is that RoboCop’s voice and likeness are based on the original actor, Peter Weller, who had previously reprised his role in Mortal Kombat 11 as a guest character. Unfortunately, Nancy Allen did not return to voice RoboCop’s partner Anne Lewis. However, the character is still designed to resemble Allen, with Kosha Engler taking on the vocal duties instead.
5. The Callisto Protocol
Josh Duhamel Took Over In The Dead Space Successor
Even though gamers might not see a sequel titled “Dead Space 4“, the creators have managed to deliver a game that serves as a spiritual successor, named “The Callisto Protocol“. This new title shares many similar elements with its predecessor, such as the HUD being mounted on the character’s back and the weapons, the graphic depiction of body horror and gore in a science-fiction setting, and an immersive story where a trapped pilot must fight his way out of a prison overrun by mutated humans. The essence of “Dead Space” can be felt throughout this exciting adventure.
The leading character is vividly portrayed by Josh Duhamel, an actor known for roles in movies such as Transformers, Jupiter’s Legacy, and Buddy Games. Other recognizable actors include Karen Fukuhara from the popular series The Boys and Sam Witwer, who may be familiar to some as Aiden from Being Human or Darth Maul in Star Wars animation and games.
4. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Snake Was Done Justice By Kiefer Sutherland
Initially, some fans were disheartened that David Hayter didn’t voice Snake again in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, as he had been the iconic actor for the role since the initial game. Conversely, Kiefer Sutherland gave a memorable performance as Snake with the same level of commitment and skill he demonstrated in his roles as Jack Bauer on 24, David in The Lost Boys, and Tom Kirkman in Designated Survivor.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that “Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain” represented a daring advance for the series, merging stealth and action elements within an expansive open-world setting. This blend of excitement and complexity in espionage gameplay, coupled with a convoluted narrative, enabled Sutherland to create a memorable portrayal while maintaining a sense of continuity from David Hayter’s previous work.
3. Cyberpunk 2077
The Game Wouldn’t Be The Same Without Keanu Reeves And Idris Elba
In the cyberpunk world of Cyberpunk 2077, the character Johnny Silverhand is a spectral presence for the protagonist V, much like a digital spirit lingering in the mind. Renowned actor Keanu Reeves lends his talent to bring Silverhand to life, having previously made indelible marks on various roles such as Neo, John Wick, Klaatu, John Constantine, and even Shadow the Hedgehog in the live-action Sonic films.
Although Cyberpunk 2077 initially faced criticism at its launch, numerous updates have since turned it into the cherished RPG it is now, particularly with the addition of the Phantom Liberty expansion. This expansion introduces a significant character, Solomon Reed, portrayed by Idris Elba, an actor known for his roles in Marvel, DC, Star Trek, and numerous other popular films from the past two decades.
2. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Charlie Cox Leads The Expedition To Stop The Paintress
As a passionate gamer, I’m super excited about diving into “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” by Sandfall Interactive! This turn-based RPG sees Andy Serkis, known for his work as Gollum and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes series, stepping into the role of Renoir. Joining him is Charlie Cox, who brought Daredevil to life in Marvel’s Netflix series. This game is a blend of the nostalgic charm of classic JRPG franchises like Final Fantasy and Persona, but with the same level of dedication to gameplay, visuals, and sounds as Elden Ring. I can hardly wait to explore this new world!
In a universe where people aged thirty-three vanish mysteriously, Charlie Cox takes on his debut video game character, Gustave. He spearheads the quest aimed at halting the Paintress, who seems to have triggered the curse. Amidst the dwindling popularity of traditional role-playing games, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has swiftly emerged as a contemporary classic, captivating players with its engaging gameplay. The exceptional voice acting serves merely to enhance the already enticing gaming experience.
1. God Of War
Christopher Judge Brought New Life To Kratos
In the God of War series, there have been notable guest appearances since its inception. However, the 2018 soft reboot took it up a notch by casting Christopher Judge as the mature and sage version of Kratos. He carries on the somber and intense demeanor that T.C. Carson created in the original trilogy, but he also infuses his unique style to make his portrayal memorable. This is particularly evident in his character’s role as a father trying to navigate the harsh world while raising his son.
Kratos undergoes continuous development throughout the “God of War” series, with Christopher Judge delivering a convincing performance as a stoic warrior burdened by grief and remorse. Primarily seeking to scatter his wife’s remains, Kratos and his son, Atreus, journey through various realms rooted in Norse mythology, transforming the series into an immersive action RPG experience that redefined it with compelling narrative.
