Shocking Reason Why Star Wars: Battlefront 3 Was Never Made Revealed!

Summary

  • Original Star Wars Battlefront 3 by Pandemic Studios was never released due to time constraints given by LucasArts.
  • Fans hope for Star Wars Battlefront 3 to become a reality, pushing EA for a new installment in the popular series.

A developer who contributed to the initial release of ‘Star Wars: Battlefront 2’ has shed light on why we haven’t seen a third game in this series yet. Although Pandemic Studios were responsible for the original ‘Star Wars: Battlefront 2’, it wasn’t until a revival by EA and DICE a decade later that fans received any fresh content from this beloved franchise.

From the moment I first got my hands on Star Wars: Battlefront back in 2004, it’s been a game that’s held a special place in my gaming heart. Over the years, whether during its initial release or more recently, there’s never been a third installment to this franchise, which leaves many of us fans feeling a bit let down. Yet, despite their age, these games continue to draw me and countless others back.

The latest surge in player count for Star Wars Battlefront 2 can be attributed to the massive success of the Andor TV series. I’ve found myself immersed once more in this galaxy far, far away, reliving all those epic Star Wars battles that I’ve always dreamt of being a part of. It’s like stepping right into the heart of the action!

In a conversation with VideoGamer, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 designer Dan Nanni disclosed the reason behind the non-release of Pandemic’s third installment in the series. While Free Radical came close to finishing their version of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 a few years later, many are unaware that Pandemic had started working on its own version first. As per Nanni, “The negotiations simply didn’t progress.” The original developers were given a one-year development cycle, the same as the time gap between the initial Star Wars: Battlefront and its 2005 sequel.

“Negotiations Just Didn’t Take Off” For Pandemic’s Star Wars: Battlefront

This development took place concurrently with the debut of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, creating an almost unmanageable one-year gap due to the complexities associated with transitioning to new consoles. Developing games for these new platforms isn’t as straightforward as producing a game for the previous console because they come equipped with novel hardware that introduces fresh limitations, and developers don’t fully understand these constraints until they have access to the actual hardware… This seems to be the reason why discussions on Pandemic’s proposed Star Wars: Battlefront 3 stagnated, as there was a desire for more time to perfect the project. Nanni expressed that if given the opportunity, they would have crafted something truly extraordinary with this project, as it featured a space-to-ground concept similar to Free Radical’s canceled version.

…we’d have made something really special.

Despite the disappointment that we never saw Star Wars: Battlefront 3, enthusiasm is growing for DICE’s series to complete its trilogy, eight years since the last installment was launched. Star Wars Battlefront enthusiasts are rallying players to take action in hopes of conveying a strong message to EA that there remains substantial interest in a new game. Whether or not it materializes is uncertain, but there’s no question that a fresh Star Wars Battlefront title would quickly attract fans.
