The second season of HBO’s show The Last of Us is likely to be distinguished for its compelling storyline, strong acting, and abundance of emotional moments. Moreover, this installment is expected to gain notoriety due to the heart-wrenching demise of Joel Miller (portrayed by Pedro Pascal). The plot of the second season primarily revolves around Ellie’s quest for vengeance, which aligns with the storyline of the second game in the series. Notably, several significant characters meet their end in the second game, adding an extra layer of suspense and brutality to the narrative. Fortunately, the series has faithfully adapted these intense death scenes from the game, particularly in the finale.

In Episode 2, Abby mercilessly took Joel’s life using a golf club, prompting Ellie to embark on her quest for vengeance. This led to Nora (portrayed by Tati Gabrielle) being fatally killed in Seattle during the season finale of The Last of Us. The finale was marked by three gruesome deaths that left a deep impression and significantly contributed to the storyline. So, let’s examine the fates of the characters in the final episode of this series.

Here Are The Characters That Died In The Last of Us Season 2 Finale

Owen Moore

In the second series of The Last of Us, many of Abby’s companions were not extensively featured. They were briefly introduced in the first and second episodes, but thereafter, their narratives took a secondary role, with the season primarily focusing on Ellie. Nonetheless, Owen (portrayed by Spencer Lord) reappeared in the finale, confronting Ellie for the first time.

Ellie navigated towards the Seattle Aquarium in search of Abby. After scrutinizing various parts of the aquarium, she managed to discover a hidden area that resembled a long corridor. Armed with a weapon, she stepped into this passageway where she overheard Owen and Mel debating the attack by WLF on the Seraphites’ village. Without hesitation, Ellie interrupted their discussion to inquire about Abby’s location. Despite Owen warning her that taking violent action wasn’t advisable, Ellie stood firm and demanded they mark Abby’s whereabouts on a map. Initially unwilling to cooperate, the duo eventually had no choice but to comply after Ellie threatened to take lethal action if they didn’t disclose the information immediately.

In a turn of events, Ellie began to count, and as she neared ‘one’, Owen informed Mel that if they revealed Abby’s location, Ellie would kill them. Contrary to his fears, Ellie declared she wouldn’t harm them if they shared the information because she was not like them. In response, Owen decided to reveal Abby’s location. However, instead of disclosing the info, Owen reached for his gun, causing Ellie to shoot him in the neck, instantly ending their lives. The demise of Owen in the HBO series differs slightly from what gamers experienced in ‘The Last of Us Part II’. In the game, after Owen attempted to disarm her, Ellie punched him before shooting him in the chest. However, it was not just Owen who met his end during that instance; another character also perished alongside him.

Mel

As Ellie witnessed Mel (portrayed by Ariela Barer) conversing with Owen, she was communicating to him that she refused to be in the forefront of this conflict and didn’t want him joining the WLF soldiers either. Surprised to find Ellie at the aquarium, Mel intended to disclose details about Abby, but Owen prevented her from speaking, giving Ellie the impression that she would harm them if the information was revealed. When Owen reached for his weapon, Ellie fired, striking Owen in the neck and inadvertently hitting Mel as well, causing her a slow and painful death. However, before succumbing to her injuries, Mel shared that she was pregnant and begged Ellie to perform a cesarean section on her. Overwhelmed, Ellie couldn’t react quickly enough, and Mel passed away before Ellie could take action.

Ellie was deeply moved by Mel’s passing, unable to hold back her tears afterwards. Yet, unlike Owen’s demise in the game, Mel’s character departure on the show didn’t follow the same pattern. In the game, when Ellie shot Owen in the chest, Mel reached for a knife intending to attack Ellie. However, she was subdued and ended up getting stabbed in the neck instead. Unlike what occurs in the game, it is not Mel who informs Ellie of her pregnancy; rather, it’s Owen who discloses that Mel was pregnant with his child as he took his final breath.

Currently, Abby seems to have vanished after losing two close companions. Tensions could escalate for Ellie moving forward.

Jesse

Indeed, the tragic instant had come, and Ellie witnessed one of her dearest friends perish before her very eyes following Owen and Mel’s demise. In the aftermath, Tommy and Jesse (portrayed by Young Mazino) arrived to save Ellie. They escorted her back to the theater, where Dina was in anticipation. With their immediate plans under discussion, Ellie remained uncertain about Abby’s location, eventually agreeing to return to Jackson. Tommy departed, leaving Jesse and Ellie to converse privately. They expressed their deep affection for one another, vowing to go to great lengths to safeguard each other.

However, their brief moment of serenity is shattered. A series of gunshots echo from somewhere within the theater. Upon investigating, Jesse is tragically gunned down. Ellie takes cover, but a voice beckons, threatening to kill Tommy if she doesn’t comply. Without hesitation, Abby has located them and forces Tommy at gunpoint. As soon as Ellie emerges, it becomes clear that Abby was the one who found them. Abby acknowledges Ellie and accuses her of making a grave error by sparing Joel’s life on the day she killed him. The screen fades to black as Abby takes aim and fires.
