Summary
- Fans loved The Walking Dead’s character development and nail-biting tension.
- Season 7 decline is traced back to shocking scenes like Glenn’s death by Negan.
- The Walking Dead fans find the tied-up walker in a car trunk scene the most messed up.
Among the numerous appealing elements of The Walking Dead, spanning its 11 seasons on AMC, what resonated most profoundly with fans was the series’ exceptional character development. These characters not only intertwined the post-apocalyptic narrative with raw, relatable emotion and despair but also became an integral part of viewers’ weekly viewing schedule. Numerous scenes from this long-running show serve as a testament to skillful tension-building, notably those involving disturbing discoveries such as Judith’s birth or Carl receiving a fatal gunshot wound to the eye. Among the numerous shocking moments that could be highlighted, there is one scene in particular that has left a lasting impression on many fans as being the most unsettling, and it doesn’t even feature any of the cast members.
Many people considered “The Walking Dead” as their go-to Sunday night entertainment, attracting countless viewers eager to discover the fates of characters in each nerve-wracking episode. Yet, by season 6, there was a shift in habits as viewership dwindled, noticeably dipping around the time of the Season 7 premiere in 2016. For those who watched that premiere, it’s not hard to guess why some viewers switched channels – the brutal death of Glenn at Negan’s hands was a significant factor. The show has always excelled at startling its audience, but an upsetting scene involving a car trunk may have driven some viewers away altogether.
The Walking Dead Fans Think the Zombie in the Trunk Is the Show’s ‘Most Messed Up’ Scene

On Reddit, a fan of “The Walking Dead” has shared their opinion about what they consider the show’s most unsettling scene, an event that might have gone unnoticed by some viewers. As per user RevertBackwards, the scene in which Maggie discovers a walker confined in the trunk of a car stands out as the most disturbing due to the belief that the woman was put there while she was still alive. This gruesome act likely led to her transformation into a walker as she succumbed to starvation and lack of oxygen. This unsettling scene is from season 4, episode 10 of “The Walking Dead”, titled “Them”. The episode is filled with harrowing moments, including the group resorting to consuming dog meat and Daryl engaging in self-harm following a loss. Among several abandoned vehicles they encounter during their food search, it’s within one of the trunks where Maggie discovers a restrained female walker. The discovery of the walker leaves Maggie shocked, as she is still grieving for her sister, Beth, and there seems to be a resemblance between the walker and her. Glenn subsequently puts the walker down for Maggie, and later encourages her to keep struggling for survival.
In addition to the infamous moments in “The Walking Dead,” some other hard-hitting scenes that resonated deeply with fans include the Governor decapitating Hershel, the demise of Glenn, and a gruesome display of ten decapitated heads on pikes belonging to Ozzy, Alek, D.J., Frankie, Tammy Rose, Rodney, Addy, Enid, Tara, and Henry. This grisly tableau was crafted by Alpha as a symbolic marker of her territorial limits. Known for its shocking stunts that often left its dedicated audience in a state of discomfort and unease, “The Walking Dead” consistently pushed the boundaries throughout its impressive eleven-season run.
