Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Reaches New Steam Player Count Record

Neither edition of the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise has seen a third installment, yet fans haven’t let this deter them from attempting to bring it about independently.

EA’s Battlefront 2 has experienced a surge in popularity lately, starting on May 4th, which is also known as Star Wars Day. Since then, the player count on Steam has been breaking records and surpassing the previous high of 10,489 players set back in early 2021.

At time of writing, the new peak is almost double that, at 18,635 in the last 24 hours.

The latest move is a part of a series of actions spearheaded by the enthusiast and modification community known as Kyber, who orchestrated an event they titled “Resurgence Day” on May 24th.

Will It Have Any Effect?

To date, neither Electronic Arts (EA) nor DICE, the creators of Star Wars Battlefront 2, have addressed the growing excitement and requests for a sequel. Meanwhile, they’re busy crafting the upcoming Battlefield title. As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but hope that we’ll see another epic adventure in the galaxy far, far away!

Even though EA hasn’t directly engaged with the fan campaign, they have recognized Kyber’s contributions towards the game by collaborating with them this year in an attempt to combat hacking issues.

Occasionally, some of the initial creators of this game have shown a desire to reunite and create a follow-up, yet their eagerness doesn’t necessarily equate to approval from the intellectual property owners.

Despite this, the enthusiasts haven’t given up their efforts. In fact, some of them have taken it upon themselves to design conceptual menus for a potential Star Wars: Battlefront 3 on the game’s Subreddit.

The latest development has also caught the interest of certain Star Wars actors, including Iden Versio from Battlefront 2 and Wilmon Paak from Andor, who have joined the chorus of supporters among fans.

At present, it’s just a fan-led movement. Regardless of how many players join in, without an endorsement from official sources that can actually bring about Battlefront 3, it remains wishful thinking.

However, on the brighter side, this situation ensures that a greater number of gamers can enjoy Star Wars Battlefront 2 in its current form: a thrilling multiplayer first-person shooter that has significantly evolved since its initial release, overcoming many of the issues it faced during its contentious launch.
