Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service has just added two new games this month, with one being “Metaphor: ReFantazio”, a highly-acclaimed game from 2024. This brings the total number of new releases for the service in 2025 to 17, not counting games exclusive to the Standard tier. So far, it has been the most content-rich month for Xbox Game Pass in 2025.
Launched in October 2024, the game “Metaphor: ReFantazio” was met with almost unanimous praise and enthusiasm upon its release. The exceptional reception for Atlus’s newest JRPG is evident in its “Mighty” rating on OpenCritic, which comes from a 98% recommendation rate among reviewers and an average score of 93. This places the latest title from the developers of “Persona” among the top-rated games of 2024, trailing only slightly behind “Astro Bot,” “Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania,” “Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon,” and, if you include DLCs, “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
7 months after its initial launch, the game “Metaphor: ReFantazio” joined Microsoft’s subscription service on May 29th, 2025, as part of the last two games in the Xbox Game Pass Wave 2 lineup for that month. The other game, “Spray Paint Simulator”, also became available today. This marks the fifth game added to the XGP catalog since the start of May. Since it’s a day-one title, “Spray Paint Simulator” can only be accessed with a PC or Ultimate-tier subscription, not the standard Xbox Game Pass. However, “Metaphor: ReFantazio” can be played with any non-Core membership.

The “Spray Paint Simulator” hasn’t garnered much praise from critics thus far, but it currently holds a “Fair” rating on OpenCritic, based on its first four reviews, with an average score of 67. Although it may not reach the heights of acclaim as “Metaphor: ReFantazio”, this latest creation from North Star Game Studio in Maryland should still manage to make a mark due to its unique concept, contributing to the variety of intriguing simulation games available on Microsoft’s subscription service.
When Could Spray Paint Simulator Come to Xbox Game Pass Standard?
Based on past patterns, Xbox Game Pass Standard tends to get day-one releases six to twelve months later than Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Given this trend, it’s possible that “Spray Paint Simulator” may become available for the standard tier library anywhere between November 2025 and May 2026.
Although we haven’t received an official announcement about next month’s Xbox Game Pass Wave 1 lineup, there are unusually many confirmed titles for June 2025. A total of eight games have been confirmed so far, such as “Crypt Custodian”, “Symphonia”, and “The Alters”. Typically, the entire Wave 1 list is unveiled on June 3 based on past patterns.
