Over the years, role-playing games (RPGs) have expanded from strategic, turn-based play to open-world survival and crafting adventures. The variety is immense, leaving many fantastic options to choose from. However, which titles are worth your valuable cash and will deliver an unforgettable gaming experience for you and your friends?
Fundamentally, cooperative role-playing games revolve around camaraderie, embarking on an adventure collectively, and enjoying shared amusement and thrilling incidents. By 2025, we’ll have it all set up. With just a single click, you and four companions can assemble a team, communicate effortlessly, and enjoy synchronized gameplay together.
Back in the day, it was quite a challenge to enjoy video games with pals simultaneously if we weren’t gathered together in one spot. Nowadays, it seems so effortless, but let me remind you of those times when online gaming wasn’t as commonplace.
The realm of video games has advanced significantly over time, offering an extensive array of remarkable role-playing games (RPGs) to pick from, all conveniently accessible for players. To aid in your decision-making process, I’ve compiled this list based on my own gaming experiences, presenting a review of the top 10 outstanding four-player cooperative RPGs that you simply cannot miss.
Games have progressed a lot, providing many excellent RPGs to pick from, all easy to play. To make your choice easier, I’ve put together this list based on my own gaming history, showcasing the top 10 best four-player co-op RPGs that you absolutely need to try.

Diablo 4
The Return Of Lilith

Diablo 4 offers a fantastic multiplayer experience, thanks to its captivating open-world environment, user-friendly skill system that enables extensive character customization, and abundance of post-game content.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that you and your gaming crew have an exciting selection ahead! Five captivating characters await: the Necromancer, the Druid, the Barbarian, the Sorcerer, and the Rogue. If fortune smiles upon us, by acquiring the Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred Expansion, we’ll also gain access to the enigmatic Spiritborn class!
What excites me most about Diablo 4 is the freedom to tinker with the skill system and craft characters with distinct abilities that are enjoyable to use. During my initial play, I opted for a druid character, initially focusing on shifting forms, but later discovered I preferred using storm and earth sorcery instead.
Building characters in diverse manners significantly boosts D4’s replay value, offering you and your friends numerous strategies to engage with the game. It’s an excellent standalone RPG experience, but when played cooperatively to conquer dungeons, it becomes even more immersive. Consequently, I believe Diablo 4 would make a powerful debut on this list, an essential title for gamers.

Stardew Valley
It’s Not Just A Farming Game

2016 saw the launch of Stardew Valley, a farm-themed simulation game that captured the affection of gamers globally, earning itself a place among the best comfort games ever created. Abounding in endearing non-player characters, engaging missions, intriguing locales to discover, and naturally, farming opportunities, this game is a must-have for every gamer’s collection.
If you’re finding yourself a bit drained after blasting through 1000 rounds in a Call of Duty match, why not switch gears and spark up Stardew Valley? Invite your buddies over, work together on rebuilding the farm, go fishing, mining, or even look for a potential partner. You’ll also have the opportunity to focus on developing various skills, which will help you and your friends create a well-rounded team that can support each other effectively.
I’ve consistently admired the skill of breaking rocks in pursuit of precious gems and resources, and I find it delightful how Stardew Valley provides you with the freedom to decide your approach towards the fascinating realm of mining. You can opt for either a miner or a geologist role, both of which will influence your areas of expertise once you reach level 10.
In any game, I’m consistently drawn to blacksmithing, so I usually select the miner and then the blacksmith specializations. These choices are a big reason why Stardew Valley is an excellent option for a four-player cooperative experience. Each player in your team has the flexibility to pursue their own unique path while still working together on a common project.
Though Stardew Valley may not initially seem like your type of game, I strongly recommend giving it a try. There’s a high probability you’ll find yourself captivated by its engaging gameplay and immersive experience β that’s why it earned the ninth position on my list.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2
We Stand Together

If you’re looking for an immersive four-player cooperative game filled with medieval battles and plenty of decapitations, give Warhammer: Vermintide 2 a try. Released back in 2018, this game is still a great investment in 2025. Even if you’re not well-versed in the Warhammer universe, you can still have a fantastic time playing it.
Among your group, you have five character options: Markus Kruber, Bardin Goreksson, Sienna Fuegonasus, Kerillian, and Victor Saltzpyre. Each character allows you to specialize in three distinct professions, providing a total of 15 talent paths to customize your gameplay experience, ensuring you can play the way that suits you best.
Seven years on, this game continues to dazzle me visually, and I’ve shared countless exhilarating battles against waves of foes, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with a loyal band of comrades.
In Vermintide 2, you’ll find an abundance of top-notch content, distinct character designs that stand out, the ability to craft your own playstyle, and engaging combat that truly delivers. It’s these features that earn it a ranking of eighth place.

Monster Hunter Wilds
Satisfying Co-op Gameplay

Once more, Monster Hunter has outdone itself! MH Wilds offers an amazing gameplay experience with captivating battles, a rich array of formidable beasts to track down, and equipment to craft. The weather systems and shifting seasons contribute to some truly immersive landscapes, which is one of the aspects I adore most about Wilds – its visual beauty is simply breathtaking.
The extensive array of weapon choices in MH Wilds contributes significantly to its exceptional cooperative gameplay, as it empowers each team member to forge their unique identity. Ranging from charge blades to bowguns, hammers, or the traditional sword and shield, you and your allies can customize your weapons and armor to cater to distinct roles.
For gaming enthusiasts who appreciate challenging combat and resource gathering, Monster Hunter World (MHW) is an excellent pick, making it worthy of the seventh position on our list due to its engaging gameplay loop that’s characteristic of the MH series.
6.
Path Of Exile 2
Complex & Captivating

Path of Exile 2, currently in early access, is brimming with potential for further enhancements. However, even at this stage, it offers an exciting cooperative gameplay experience, boasting intricate and expansive skill trees that cater to a wide range of playstyles, allowing for extensive customization. As someone who cut their teeth on Diablo games, I find myself drawn to what POE2 is offering, and I believe its future looks promising.
In Path of Exile 2, you’re presented with a diverse range of 12 character classes, each offering unique playstyles and skill sets. For me, the Ranger class has been a favorite, primarily because I’ve always had a fondness for the traditional bow-and-arrow setup. The appeal is even stronger when elemental arrows come into play.
In terms of appearance, Path of Exile 2 is visually stunning; its gameplay offers a seamless combat experience, and taking on boss battles with friends is immensely rewarding. For these reasons, it ranks sixth on our list.
5.
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Turn-Based Combat

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a tactical turn-based role-playing game, similar to Baldur’s Gate 3 in style, but it was launched in the year 2017. Despite its age, don’t underestimate DOS2 β it promises an unforgettable gaming adventure for you and your companions.
If you’re searching for a mentally stimulating game that requires strategic thinking at all times, DOS2 could be an excellent pick for your upcoming cooperative journey. You can opt for one of the five pre-designed characters to get started, or create a character from the ground up by selecting your initial abilities, race, and appearance.
In a group setting with friends, I find immense pleasure in the variety you can create for playstyles and builds. Larian Studios excels at character customization, and the tough turn-based battles make every victory feel incredibly rewarding. Plus, each character’s unique role is always highlighted during these fights.
Among many outstanding traits, DOS2 stands out as one of my favorites due to the enjoyable experience it offers. Consequently, it comfortably earns a spot among my top five games.
4.
Deep Rock Galactic
Rock & Stone!

Deep Rock Galactic holds a special place among my favorite games, offering an incredibly enjoyable experience, particularly when played with friends. One feature that initially drew me in was the distinct abilities of the game’s four character classes: The Engineer, The Driller, The Gunner, and The Scout.
In DRG (Deep Rock Galactic), you are employed by a space mining corporation, which means you’ll be venturing into cave networks scattered across the cosmos in pursuit of precious minerals. Navigating these insect-ridden caves can be challenging, but it’s comforting to know that each class comes equipped with distinctive tools for the task, leading to some exciting cooperative play dynamics.
During my initial gameplay session, I opted for the Engineer character and was thoroughly captivated by its unique design. The Engineer comes equipped with a platform gun, allowing you to construct platforms anywhere, and when combined with the Scout’s grappling hook, it ensures that no location is inaccessible.
The fighting experience is incredibly rewarding, character customization options are excellent, exploration is exceptional, and the space station where you pick missions abounds with mini-games and fun activities. I find the level of detail in DRG truly commendable, and I can’t help but strongly endorse it for anyone seeking a quality cooperative game.
3.
Grounded
An Incredible Co-op Experience

In the spirit of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Grounded represents a thrilling survival role-playing game that my two buddies and I embarked on together for the first time. While we were eager to discover a fresh gaming experience, I must admit I wasn’t prepared for just how mind-blowingly captivating it would prove to be. This unique adventure places you in a backyard teeming with aggressive insects as you and your friends scramble to survive, having been mysteriously shrunken to minute proportions.
In this new world, you’ll need to scout around for resources, fashion tools like weapons, armor, and construction materials, then build a refuge to keep you safe from potential dangers. On our very first night here, a wolf spider unexpectedly attacked our shelter – quite a comedic moment given we were still in the beginning stages of playing!
In the game ‘Grounded’, survival is skillfully executed, requiring careful preparation and strategic planning. You’ll need to ensure you have sufficient food, water, and crafting resources at hand to tackle challenges such as stinkbug spray or scorching heat. If you haven’t played Grounded yet, I highly recommend giving it a try; that’s why I couldn’t help but place it among the top picks.
2.
Enshrouded
Survival Action-RPG

2024 saw the launch of “Enshrouded,” a game that has rapidly gained popularity due to its user-friendly base construction, rewarding crafting mechanics, and expansive, stunning open environment to discover. In this game, you can embark on the realm of Embervale with as many as 16 players, delving into an engrossing world where survival and knowledge are at stake.
As an avid gamer, I can confidently say that Enshrouded is a triumph for the open-world survival genre and an outstanding pick for your next gaming escapade. Despite being in early-access, it feels remarkably polished, and its crafting and building mechanisms are so impressive they might even bring a tear to your eye.
Wrapped within it lies an intricate skill system, and I found myself thoroughly enjoying the process of trying out various character builds. From testing out roles such as the archer, sorcerer, brute, stealthy assassin, and versatile battlemage, I can confidently say that Enshrouded is a remarkable game with a promising future. Without a doubt, it deserves a spot on your list of must-play RPGs, ranking among the top two in its genre.
1.
Baldur’s Gate 3
Arguably The G.O.A.T

In Baldur’s Gate 3, developed by Larian Studios, you can take on the roles of gnomes, dwarves, elves, paladins, monks, wizards, or any other character you can imagine. This game has raised the bar to unprecedented heights when it comes to engaging storylines, immersive gameplay, and cinematic excellence. If you haven’t played it yet, I strongly suggest giving it a try.
Instead of asking why BG3 should be number one, let me explain what sets it apart: It boasts an unparalleled level of detail, the impact of your choices matters significantly, character customization is extensive, dialogue is rich, and cooperative play offers a unique experience. Each replay reveals new aspects that continue to impress me, and my friends and I have shared countless amusing and extraordinary moments during our gaming sessions together.
In role-playing games like BG3, freedom reigns supreme – a key factor setting it apart from others. Whether you prefer upholding moral standards or sowing disorder to observe its impact, the power lies with you. This flexibility is part of what has earned it acclaim as one of the greatest games ever made, making it an obvious top pick in many circles.
