Daredevil: Born Again’s Viewership Was Beaten By Another Marvel Series (But It Helped Disney In One Big Way)

Daredevil: Born Again may not be the most popular show produced by Marvel Studios on Disney Plus in terms of viewership, but it significantly boosted the platform’s earnings.

The collaboration between Marvel Studios and Disney Plus is a part of The Walt Disney Company’s overall streaming strategy, following Disney’s acquisition of Marvel Entertainment in 2009. Since then, Marvel Studios’ films have been assimilated under Disney’s wing. From 2015 to 2019, a different division from Marvel Studios called Marvel Television produced various series on Netflix, such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders. However, in 2019, Netflix decided to end its partnership with Marvel by canceling all of its Marvel shows. In the same year, Marvel Television merged into Marvel Studios under Kevin Feige’s leadership. Since 2021, Marvel Studios has been producing original content for Disney Plus, including WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, and more. It was recently reported that Daredevil: Born Again isn’t among the most-watched Marvel series on Disney Plus in 2024, but it significantly boosted the platform’s viewership.

In 2024-2025, Variety listed the 100 Most-Watched TV series across streaming, broadcast, and cable platforms. Netflix topped the chart with “Squid Game” at number one, boasting 27.1 million views in a 35-day span. Interestingly, four out of the top five shows were from Netflix. While Kathryn Hahn’s “Agatha All Along” on Disney Plus ranked 45th with 9 million views, it still surpassed “Daredevil: Born Again,” which was at the 92nd spot with 5.8 million views. Despite “Agatha All Along” having a larger viewer base, Disney Plus seems pleased with “Daredevil,” as it contributed to an unexpected surge in subscribers for the platform. In fact, Disney Plus gained over 1.4 million new subscribers within the first three months of 2025, defying predictions that it would lose 1.1 million subscribers. The company attributed this growth to the arrival of two films, “Moana 2” and “Mufasa: The Lion King,” as well as the debut of their original series, “Daredevil: Born Again.

In a fresh take, the highly anticipated series titled Daredevil: Born Again saw the comeback of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock (also known as Daredevil). Alongside him were fan favorites such as Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Franklin ‘Foggy’ Nelson, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter / Bullseye, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher.

Originally, Born Again was designed to stand independently from the initial Netflix series; some original cast members were not initially part of this project. However, Marvel Studios ultimately opted to make it a continuation of the canceled Netflix series, transforming it into what D’Onofrio himself referred to as a “fourth season.” The show was warmly received and is set for its second season in the coming year.

It wasn’t a shock at all that Daredevil: Born Again attracted new subscribers for Disney Plus, given its previous success on Netflix. Marvel’s Daredevil was a hit with audiences after running for three seasons and boasting impressive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans were disappointed when Netflix canceled Season 4, but now that Disney has picked it up and brought back the original cast, they finally get to see the fourth season they’ve been waiting for. The show is well-liked due to its realistic storytelling and darker tone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making it one of the studio’s more violent offerings. With Season 2 on the horizon, there may be even more subscribers flocking to Disney Plus to witness the next exploits of The Man Without Fear.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will be released in March 2026.
