World of Warcraft Hunter Pet Tier List

As a devoted admirer, I’d say that the hunters in World of Warcraft are the epitome of nature’s masters, forging deep connections with their untamed comrades on and off the battlefield. Some hunters prefer solitude, but none can deny the draw of the wild. With each new content update, we hunters eagerly anticipate discovering what fresh beasts will join our formidable menagerie.

In World of Warcraft: Classic, the pets used by hunters function differently compared to those in retail versions. The pet you have equipped plays a minor role now, and it’s more significant to focus on their additional skills instead of damage differences. In contemporary World of Warcraft, hunters have been given a wide variety of options, no longer limited to a few top-performing pets. This list is not about the damage or even usefulness, but rather the aesthetics and rarity of these creatures that make them appealing.

S-Tier Hunter Pets

  • Rare Beasts, Scattered Far and Wide
  • Azeoroth’s Mystical Spirit Beasts
  • WoW’s Fantastic Tameable Bosses

Every now and then, each expansion features its own exclusive collection of scarcely found mythical beasts, often belonging to the prestigious category of Spirit Beasts. These elusive creatures can either be random spawns or hidden behind secret quest chains. One of the most famous Spirit Beasts from Wrath of the Lich King is Loque’Nahak, the wandering companion of the snow leopard spirit Loa, Har’koa. He can be found in different parts of Sholozaar Basin, but his appearance on the spawn timer may test even the most patient gamers’ patience. Terrorpene, a magma tortoise, hails from the Firelands, a realm of fiery elemental rage. He seldom appears in Mount Hyjal, surrounded by a pool of simmering lava.

Hati, a wolf infused with the might of storms, was a steadfast ally to Beastmaster hunters during World of Warcraft: Legion, being associated with their Artifact Weapon. After two years of his company, hunters received a unique quest series to acquire him as a genuine pet in their stables, along with various color variations. Hati, a pet favored by the Titan Keepers, has shown no fear and stands unyielding against all adversaries. On the other hand, Sul’Raka is a noble tiger exclusive to the Emerald Dream, resembling the Wild God or Loa Kimbul, also known as Shirvallah. This spirit beast boasts an impressive red mohawk, adding a mystical allure that is sure to captivate onlookers.

Hunter characters cannot fight or raid boss beasts immediately, as they need to first become less formidable on their own. Once this condition is met, these unique pets can be tamed, providing some of the most impressive models in World of Warcraft. Examples include Rezan, the undead devilsaur Loa, and Fenrir, the powerful wolf spirit in Halls of Valor. These rare creatures are highly valued among players.

A-Tier Hunter Pets

  • Undead Pets, With Rotting Hides and Hollow Skulls
  • Pandaria’s Honored Cloud Serpents
  • Lesser Dragonkin, Beautiful and Mysterious
  • The Feathermanes, Regal and Fierce

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands may not be well-liked by many gamers, but it did introduce an intriguing aspect for hunter characters. A new book was obtained from one of the dungeons that showed hunters how to capture undead creatures, which were previously unobtainable. Among the most sought-after were the undead raptors from Zandalar, as these mummified beasts are revered companions to the Zandalari and are buried in tombs alongside kings and queens. Additionally, undead devilsaurs, hounds, and wind serpents could now be obtained, making them ideal for Forsaken hunters.

In Shadowlands, I found myself able to bond with the legendary cloud serpents, belonging to the Serpent family as they do. Just like when these magnificent creatures first graced the mount scene, proving my worth is still a requirement before I can call one my companion. As a Hunter, I must reach exalted status with the Order of the Cloud Serpent faction and purchase the “School Your Serpent” manual. However, it seems that Pandaren Hunters have an inherent link to these grand cloud serpents, allowing them to tame them instantly.

Much like how previously undead animals could be domesticated by players, the zone known as the Emerald Dream in Dragonflight introduced the ability to tame certain dragonkin, such as faerie dragons, who are famously elusive and enigmatic. Additionally, it enabled players to tame Veilwings, stunning creatures resembling dragons that can only be found within the mirror realm of Ardenweald in the Emerald Dream. Lastly, the Hornswogs inhabiting the Dragon Isles were also made tameable, a development that many players celebrated as a long-awaited gift.

In the course of the Legion expansion, players were treated to content tailored for their specific classes. For instance, Hunters reveled in their exclusive lodge perched atop the snowy Highmountain peaks, and soon discovered the secret of bonding with an enticing clan. The Feathermanes, a collective of creatures that encompass both wyverns and gryphons, became tameable. These creatures have been integral to the Warcraft universe since its roots as a real-time strategy game, so the ability to forge friendships with them beyond just mounts was a delightful experience.

B-Tier Hunter Pets

  • Racial Starter Pets

These creatures may not be flashy or impressive, but they hold a special appeal due to the cherished memories associated with them. When a hunter character is designed, their racial pet becomes an inherent companion. These animals are frequently tied to the cultural heritage of their respective playable races, or embody their unique traits and personalities. The authentic World of Warcraft hunter journey typically involves spending countless hours alongside your initial pet, forging a bond over every conquest made together.

C-Tier Hunter Pets

  • Those Poor Pets With Outdated Models

In the realm of World of Warcraft, it’s challenging to label any pet as undesirable because they hold a unique spot in many players’ hearts. Some pets have been overlooked during model updates and remain in their primitive forms, but they are often cherished with time. Many players keep these nostalgic pets, yet sadly, most are overshadowed by newer, more attractive models. Despite this, they remain unwaveringly loyal, which makes them good companions regardless.
