The following contains major spoilers for the Disney+ show Daredevil: Born Again.
With the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again” now behind us and a second season currently being filmed, it’s safe to say that Disney’s latest Marvel series on their streaming platform is a strong comeback for television content. The title “Daredevil: Born Again” isn’t just a nod to the comic book run with the same name; it’s both literal and symbolic, signifying the revival of the Netflix’s three-season “Daredevil” series on Disney+, with “Born Again” serving as a continuation of that show. Considering everything that happens in Season 1 and how characters are handled, realistically, “Daredevil: Born Again” functions more like a fresh start or a clean slate.
In the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again“, we see Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk’s disguises as heroes slowly crumbling. By the end of the season, Bullseye is loose, Kingpin’s Anti-Vigilante Squad is deployed in New York City, capturing Punisher (who surprisingly walked right into their base), and Daredevil starts gathering a group of individuals willing to challenge the mayor. This sets up the groundwork for a second season. Interestingly, an Anti-Vigilante Task Force could also serve as a thrilling aspect in a potential “Daredevil” video game, should one ever be developed.
Kingpin’s AVTF Would Be a Great Enemy Faction in a Daredevil Game
In superhero games, adversaries often walk a fine line. On one side, they serve an essential purpose by offering players endless opportunities to vanquish enemies. From thwarting petty crimes like carjackings and drug deals to taking down powerful villains, there’s nothing more satisfying as a superhero than exercising such power.
Street-level hero characters like Spider-Man and Daredevil possess unique abilities that make them suitable for their respective roles. For example, Spider-Man’s powers are more than just what one would expect in a neighborhood setting, yet he chooses to fight petty crimes and occasional foes with animal-themed personas. In contrast, Daredevil is an excellent choice for street-level crime fighting due to his heightened senses, gymnastic prowess, and the fact that he’s blind.
It’s surprising that there hasn’t been a contemporary AAA game, either open-world or not, featuring Daredevil, given how effectively his abilities could be utilized in the gritty and narrow alleys of Hell’s Kitchen.
As a gamer diving into the world of Daredevil, I can envision an exhilarating experience filled with formidable enemy factions drawn from his rogues’ gallery. For instance, the Hand and Kingpin’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force could both serve as engaging adversaries. The former group might consist of corrupt cops similar to those in “Daredevil: Born Again,” while the latter could comprise Thunderbolts villains, much like in the comic book series “Devil’s Reign” (2021). Both options promise a thrilling ride as engaging with crooked cops adds an exciting twist to the narrative, while battling the Thunderbolts would offer numerous antagonists for players to encounter during side quests.
If a Daredevil Game was Announced, Bullseye Seems Like a Shoo-in
In the initial season of “Daredevil: Born Again,” Bullseye appears just before he creates a massive impact, altering lives irrevocably. His actions, such as fatally shooting Foggy in the prologue and later attempting to hit Kingpin while Matt Murdock takes the bullet’s path, significantly change the course of events.
In Episode 1, Bullseye’s ruthless and violent nature is clearly showcased, making it unlikely that a Daredevil game would ignore him. Given his significant role in the series, it seems fitting for Bullseye to be included in the game. Additionally, although a Fisk boss would also be plausible, he has already been widely used, with Kingpin serving as the introductory/tutorial boss in Marvel’s Spider-Man. In contrast, Bullseye hasn’t received much attention, yet the Netflix and Disney version of the character from Daredevil has garnered a significant following due to its popularity and depth.
