So long as individuals exhibit peculiar traits, there will persistently be figures who embody heroism and wickedness. Yet, it’s rare for young ones to fantasize about becoming the antagonist; instead, they often find themselves unwillingly thrust into this role due to their inherent quirks, unfortunate upbringing, or a myriad of factors beyond their influence. By the point when they recognize their transformation into villains, it’s usually too late – reversal is no longer an option.
In the world of “My Hero Academia”, there are certain individuals who find joy in embracing the role of a villain. They wreak havoc and spread an unmeasurable amount of sorrow with a grin on their face. These disturbed souls derive genuine pleasure from their actions. Here are some characters from “MHA” who revel in being villains.
1. Skeptic
A Skillful Villain

- Quirk: Anthropomorph
- Affiliation: Meta Liberation Army
- First Appearance: Episode 108
The individual in question oversees the safety and intel operations for the Meta Liberation Army’s system. Given that he doesn’t engage in physical combat, his role isn’t typically on the frontlines. Instead, his battleground exists within the digital realm beyond our screens. It’s important to note that he is exceptionally skilled as a global hacker.
A Doubter takes great pride in his abilities, which makes sense given that they’re self-taught rather than innate talents. His prowess stems from sheer skill, not some oddity. Therefore, he’s always ready to flaunt his skills at any opportunity. This can range from playfully breaching government agency systems, disrupting major broadcast signals for propaganda purposes, and secretly accessing military satellite data. He’s a malicious character who revels in every moment of it.
2. Stain
The Ruthless Hero-Killer

- Quirk: Bloodcurdle
- Affiliation: Independent
- First Appearance: Episode 24
Among all the villains on this list, or indeed throughout the entire series, Stain is unique in that he exclusively attacks heroes. He doesn’t shy away from harming bystanders, but his primary objective has always been to target heroes. This is because he believes in weeding out the hero industry of those he deems unworthy.
All Might is the ideal hero in Stain’s viewpoint. As such, every aspiring hero should aim to emulate him. Those who fail to meet his standards should be expelled from the hero community, no matter the method used. Stain acknowledges that he is a villain, but he believes his actions are necessary for a better society. Consequently, he will relentlessly pursue, punish, and eliminate as many fraudulent heroes as possible, for as long as he can.
3. Dabi
A Broken Villain

- Quirk: Blueflame
- Affiliation: League of Villains
- First Appearance: Episode 31
Born with a unique ability that surpasses Endeavor’s fiery power in intensity, yet a body incapable of handling heat, Dabi unintentionally inflicts harm on himself each time he activates his quirk. Despite his challenging circumstances, he relentlessly pursued training, yearning for approval from his abusive father. However, an unfortunate incident led to him accidentally setting himself ablaze. The following years were marked by intense suffering, both physically and psychologically, under the control of All For One.
In a twisted turn of events, the malevolent ruler and his physician successfully revive Dabi, yet his body remains precariously on the edge of collapse. The burning desire for retribution against his father sustains him. Dabi endures unrelenting agony at every moment, which he strives to distract himself from by remaining perpetually active. He eventually discovers that causing pain in others serves as a form of therapy for him, providing him with a twisted sense of pleasure. As such, Dabi views embracing the role of a villain as the sole means of existence.
4. Kendo Rappa
A Battle Junkie Villain

- Quirk: Strongarm
- Affiliation: Shie Hassaikai
- First Appearance: Episode 70
Prior to affiliating with the Shie Hassaikai Yakuza group, Kendo Rappa had a history as an underground combatant. He harbors a deep passion for fighting, finding the greatest thrill when facing formidable opponents. The adrenaline-pumping brawls are what truly invigorate him. Interestingly, his unique ability aligns perfectly with this obsession of his.
When Kendo entered Shie Hassaikai, he couldn’t have been more ecstatic about taking on the role of their executioner. The idea of being able to deliver lethal blows was like a cherished dream for Kendo. He acknowledges his own villainy, but frankly doesn’t care as long as he gets to engage in fierce battles. To him, that’s all that truly matters.
5. Kunieda
A Deranged Serial Killer

- Quirk: Unnamed Plant Growth Quirk
- Affiliation: Paranormal Liberation Front
- First Appearance: Episode 147
Among the top-tier inmates at Tartarus, Kunieda was one who was liberated by All For One during the notorious prison break event. While many dangerous individuals were confined within Tartarus, Kunieda stands out as an exceptional form of wickedness due to his past as a convicted serial murderer.
In a different phrasing, Kunieda utilized his ability to manipulate plant growth for a horrifying purpose: he took countless innocent lives, subsequently transforming their remains into nourishment for his plants. Much like many serial killers, he harbors an inexplicable fixation on ending human existence. Regardless of the fate that befalls him or the world, Kunieda remains steadfast in his twisted path. He finds immense pleasure in embodying a villain and a murderer.
6. Muscular
A Rampaging Villain

- Quirk: Muscle Augmentation
- Affiliation: League of Villains
- First Appearance: Episode 40
From an observational standpoint, there’s a striking resemblance between Muscular and the fusion of Kendo Rappa and Kunieda. Much like Kendo, he exhibits an unnerving obsession with combat, pushing the boundaries of lethality in his pursuit. His hunger for battle is insatiable, driving him to seek out progressively formidable adversaries. Similarly to Kunieda, raw conflict isn’t enough; he relentlessly pursues his quench for blood, aiming to reduce his opponents to dust under his might.
As the situation worsens, Muscular’s unique ability enables him to continuously build up muscle tissue, making him increasingly powerful as battles prolong. His insatiable appetite for violence and devastation propels him into destructive rages, leaving destruction in his wake. These moments of chaos are when he experiences peak excitement. In Muscular’s eyes, embracing villainy is the key to truly living.
7. All For One
The Ultimate Evil

- Quirk: Multiple Quirks
- Affiliation: Paranormal Liberation Front
- First Appearance: Episode 33
In the universe of “My Hero Academia”, All For One is generally considered the orchestrator of many of the world’s malevolent events. Once a tyrant who brought chaos to Japan, transforming it into a land without law, his actions are as effortless as breathing for him – destruction and violence being second nature. It’s not an overstatement to describe All For One as the embodiment of evil itself.
It’s particularly troubling that All For One wasn’t corrupted or influenced into a life of villainy; instead, he was born with an evil disposition and powerful abilities in a period where few possessed quirks. Remarkably, his first murder occurred as a child, and the death toll only continued to grow from there.
From my perspective, it seems entirely in his nature to assert dominance over those perceived as weaker. Frankly, such challenges only seem to provoke him further. But does this make him relish the role of a villain? Pondering that question feels akin to questioning whether All Might enjoys being a hero – and the answer is undeniably affirmative.
