This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
Summary
- Gunko and Brook have a long history together, likely as friends, not father-daughter.
- Imu’s arrival signals the impending collapse of Elbaf, showcasing their impatience and power.
- The relationship between Gunko and Brook mirrors that of Robin and Saul, based on mutual care, not blood ties.
In Chapter 1149 of “One Piece”, more questions were posed than answers given. The opening part of this chapter zeroed in on Scopper Gaban, who overpowered Shepherd Sommers and moved towards rescuing the children held captive by Gunko. Gaban felt certain that he could vanquish the Holy Knight and save his son, but it appeared that Oda had different intentions.
Because of Collun’s mistake, Gunko discovered that he was Gaban’s child. This revelation prompted her to seize Collun, leaving Gaban with no choice but to give up. Once Gaban conceded, Gunko quickly launched a barrage of arrows at him.
Gunko Remembered A Sliver Of Her Past

When Gaban tumbled, Collun became distressed and let out a loud cry that reverberated in Gunko’s thoughts. This noise stirred memories within Gunko, taking her back to a past incident where she too was heard screaming – this time for her father. In one scene, she is portrayed shouting desperately, while in another, she holds the hand of an individual whose laughter bore a striking resemblance to Brook’s.
As I turned the last page, I found myself rushing toward Brook, my heart pounding with anticipation. Alas, just before we could reunite, Imu seized control of her body, a bitter twist that left me reeling. Though the panels were sparse, it was evident that Brook and I shared some history, yet the specifics of our connection remained shrouded in mystery.
Brook Is Not A Holy Knight
Brook Likely Led A Group Of Knights In A Country
It’s quite clear that Brook and Gunko have a long history together. When Gunko calls out for her father, it’s not likely she’s Brook’s daughter. Instead, they were more like friends. In one picture, Brook seems to be encouraging a young Gunko about his dream of being a pirate, suggesting he may have given up a previous job to follow this dream. The question now is, what was Brook doing before he became a pirate?
Well, it’s my dream to become a pirate. You see. —Brook
When the Straw Hats encountered Brook on Thriller Bark, it was revealed that he had previously led a group prior to his pirate days. This hints at the possibility that Brook might have been a ruler of a kingdom in the past. Given that Gunko is familiar with him, it’s plausible that they both hail from the same nation. Whether she was royalty or a commoner is yet to be determined. It’s easy to understand why Gunko cherishes music so dearly. Since Brook excels in melodies, he likely performed for her numerous times before setting sail, which explains Gunko’s deep affection for music.
Brook And Gunko Are Not Father And Daughter

Although it’s been suggested that Gunko and Brook are blood relatives, there seems to be very little basis for this claim. If Brook indeed had a daughter, he would have shared this information with the Straw Hats, as he is not the kind of person to overlook significant details about his personal life. It appears more likely that their connection resembles Robin and Saul’s relationship – they might not be blood-related, but they probably held a deep affection for each other.
Earlier mentioned, Gunko’s backstory was disrupted by Imu’s sudden appearance. The head of the World Government intervened, seizing control over Gunko’s body. Imu announced that Marijoa was in turmoil and voiced frustration over the Holy Knights’ delay in finishing their assigned task.
Elbaf Is Going To Collapse Soon

Imu’s arrival signifies that the land of the colossal beings won’t endure for much longer. Unlike the Sacred Soldiers, Imu seems more impulsive and vengeful. They have no qualms about taking a life without hesitation, making them formidable adversaries. In the recent installment, it was evident that their abilities surpass those of any character in One Piece.
Following Dorry and Brogy’s enlistment, Imu instructed the giants to eliminate Jarul, a prominent figure in Elbaf, whom many regard as their leader. Given the large number of adversaries, it appears uncertain that Jarul will live much longer. Yet, there’s always a chance that circumstances could alter, especially if the Monster Trio, Hajrudin, and Loki return. All of them are renowned fighters, and they may possess the power to counteract Imu.
