Lies, New Faces, and a Blooming Romance

A New Look at Familiar Faces

The story began with Koichi finding himself in a tricky situation as he contemplated presenting an imaginary girlfriend to his mother. He summoned Makoto to play this role, but his mother swiftly saw through the deception since she found it hard to believe someone as attractive as him would date someone like him. Soon after, Pop made her entrance and revealed her true name, Kazuho Haneyama. As Koichi struggled to clarify his relationship with Kazuho, there came a knock on the door from Knuckleduster, causing them concern.

However unexpectedly, he shows up appearing respectable, presenting himself as Takeshi Kuroiwa. He clarifies the circumstances, stating he’s associated with an NPO, working alongside Koichi and Kazuho, using his residence for gatherings and martial arts practice.

Kazuho Steps Up for Koichi

Makoto begins pondering Kuroiwa’s background, questioning if he might have served in the military, been a police officer, or perhaps even a hero. However, Koichi’s mother swiftly dismisses the idea of him being a hero and starts voicing her disapproval of Koichi’s past attempts to become a hero instead.

My Koichi was eager to become a hero when he was little.

But maybe he went about it the wrong way…

…I’ve never been sure whether to describe him as “unreliable” or “unsafe.”

– Shoko Haimawari, MHA: Vigilantes, Episode 9

In a moment of impulse, Kazuho shouts in dissent, only to flee embarrassed when pressed for more information. Koichi pursues her and prevents her from falling. Despite his intention to flatter her, his compliments fell flat instead.

A Relaxing City Tour Gets Interrupted

I, an observer, noticed Koichi and his friend Makoto strolling through the city alongside Koichi’s mother. The mother appeared radiantly pleased with Makoto’s conduct, leading her to reconsider her prior proposal of asking Makoto to marry Koichi. Instead, she expressed a desire to exchange roles: she would adopt Makoto as her new daughter, while Koichi remained her son.

While they were still laughing it off, a cat unexpectedly showed up on the bus’s roof. Unfortunately, this feline crossed paths with one of Hachisuka’s Trigger bees, getting stung and transforming into a monstrous creature in return. This newfound beast seized control of the bus and began wreaking havoc inside.

Koichi Helps a Pro Hero to Save The Day

Ingenium Arrives

Following its acquisition, the bus undergoes a transformation into a cat-shaped bus. It then accelerates perilously, coming close to colliding with a group of kindergarten children. Knuckleduster observes this situation and summons Pop for aid. Simultaneously, Ingenium materializes, forcing entry into the speeding vehicle in order to investigate the predicament at hand.

Straightaway, he spots Koichi, yet chooses to disregard him and returns to the task at hand – the rescue operation. Meanwhile, Knuckleduster and Pop maneuver the cat bus onto an unoccupied highway, providing Ingenium with five precious minutes to save everyone before the bus hits a dead end.

The Crawler Rises

Team IDATEN’s member Pit-02 arrives and, aiding the Pro Hero Enigma, moves the passengers from the speedy cat bus to Pit-02. However, when Hachisuka notices the predicament, she agitates the cat by administering additional Trigger into it. Consequently, Makoto is left as the only passenger aboard the accelerating bus.

At Ingenium’s wheel, the bus speeds ahead, but eventually grinds to a halt due to lack of gasoline. On the other hand, when the situation calls for it, Koichi steps up as the Crawler, but he receives a stern reprimand and a swat from his mother, who instantly identifies him. However, Koichi chooses to defy her because rescuing Makoto is more crucial.

Teaming Up with a Hero

Koichi meets up with Ingenium and gives him fuel, enabling Ingenium to resume operations. Additionally, Koichi offers further aid by serving as a diversion to lure the cat bus, yet unexpectedly, the cat bus gets thrilled by Koichi’s waving hoodie and speeds off instead.

As the lifeless alley loomed just 200 meters distant, Koichi picked up the pace and boarded a bus in an attempt to save Makoto. Unfortunately, during this endeavor, his mask slipped off, revealing his true identity. However, before they could disembark, the bus arrived at the dead end and began to collapse. Ingenium swiftly activated his Rocket Charge to catch both of them midair, but Koichi lost his grip and plummeted downwards.

Unleashing a New Power

Standing at the edge of peril, Koichi utilizes his extraordinary floating ability to ascend aloft, safeguarding Makoto in the grasp of Ingenium. Reminiscing on days past when young Koichi would take flight with his innate power, his mother now recalls her attempts to restrain him by a swift slap. However, as the distance between Koichi and home grows increasingly vast, she acknowledges that her efforts to halt him are no longer feasible.

When he was a baby, he’d float through the air before he learned to stand up.

I had no idea where he might fly off to, and I was so worried.

I started using slaps to make him stop.

But it looks like he’s gotten to where that’s not enough to stop him anymore.

– Shoko Haimawari, MHA: Vigilantes, Episode 9

Through this statement, it’s clear that she recognizes Koichi’s aspiration for brave actions. After a tumultuous day concludes, Koichi’s mother chooses to return home, entrusting him in the care of his companions. The following day, he makes an attempt to recreate his floating ability, but ends up being unable to do so at all. This leaves him questioning whether it was just a single, miraculous occurrence brought about by the power of his exclusive All Might hoodie.

As Koichi’s powers evolve, there’s plenty of opportunity for him to grow even stronger. Moreover, he has proven his worth by aiding a renowned hero. Moving forward in the series, could we witness Koichi teaming up with additional heroes? Might he eventually attain a level where he himself becomes a hero?
