After completing the initial expedition called Tricephalos, players encounter their first major geographical change known as The Crater, which serves as the inaugural Shifting Earth Event. Further expeditions reveal a colossal crater dominating the top part of the map, almost occupying a fourth of Limveld. This World Event is characterized by challenging bosses, scorching landscapes, and hazardous lava-filled areas that require careful navigation to avoid taking excessive damage.
In Elden Ring: Nightreign, navigating the depths of the crater and emerging victorious with its hidden blessings can be quite a challenge due to the limited day-night cycle. Here’s a guide on uncovering the crater’s secrets and the rewards/blessings you can anticipate.
How to Find the Secret of the Crater In Elden Ring Nightreign
Once embarking on your journey, prioritize your initial day activities by seeking Flask Upgrades, locating areas where the boss is vulnerable, and scouting the Castle to engage any Crucible Knights if available, as they provide the most Runes among regular enemies. Avoid venturing towards the upper part of the map for now, saving it for the second day. Following the defeat of Night 1’s boss, complete any remaining tasks and swiftly proceed towards the Crater before the tide begins to shift. It’s advisable to reach the Crater around level 8, but aiming for level 10 upon arrival will facilitate smoother exploration and combat encounters.
When approaching the Crater, you’re likely to encounter Thorn Sorcerers and Fire Monks. If you’re coming from the left, don’t forget to grab the Flask Upgrade from the Church beforehand, though it can still be obtained later if needed. Completing the Crater in a timely manner will allow you to do so. On the upper section, there are two challenging bosses: the Fallingstar Beast and the Valiant Gargoyle. While these battles themselves may not be overly difficult, the challenge lies in their lava-filled arenas. Be careful to avoid stepping on the lava to prevent damage and movement slowdowns.
Close to the Fallingstar Beast, there’s a way to descend by walking on a collapsed pillar. Along this path, you’ll encounter two Sorcerers and a Fire Cleric. The Cleric occasionally drops a Slumbering Power, so it’s strategic to defeat this enemy before descending into the hole. Continue heading north, and you may come across another Cleric for another opportunity to obtain Power.
As a fervent admirer, I’d put it this way: If the Prelate doesn’t appear on the scene, you can bypass the minor foes and march forward, following the rudimentary trail that lies northeast.

Before heading towards the Fog Gate and the Trio Boss fight known as the Fire Prelates, it would be wise to handle a few Sorcerers first. This is essential because the path beyond the Fog Gate will be blocked.
The Path to the Magma Wyrm
Once our Great Foe has been vanquished, make your way through the gate and veer right. On this path, you’ll encounter several Flame Chariots. If you possess the skill to double jump and swiftly eliminate them by striking their vulnerable spots atop, then engage in combat; otherwise, it’s best to avoid them.
As you reach the end of the path, take a right, then an immediate left. This will lead you to the last Site of Grace before your encounter with the Crater’s final boss. If you have the opportunity, level up here. Then, head southwest, and you should find a spot where you can descend. Once down, look northwest to locate some rock platforms below.
Jump down to these platforms sequentially, moving eastward, and eventually, you will arrive at the Magma Wyrm’s arena.
After finishing off the Magma Wyrm, approach the Smithing Table directly in front for weapon enhancement. This action grants you the opportunity to elevate any one weapon to Legendary Rank without charge. Upon completion of the upgrade, a message “Legend Forged” will appear, which should unlock the trophy/achievement “The Crater“. Concluding the Crater Event, you can then spin around to find a Spectral Hawk, which will transport you to the peak of the Crater, marking the end of the second circle.
In my gaming adventure, diving headfirst into the depths of Crater seems like the way to go! Skipping over upper levels and aiming for the bottom floor can shave off precious seconds. Just remember to watch where you’re leaping – no lava pits, please!
