Elden Ring: Nightreign is a challenging game, not just difficult, but at times, seemingly unjust. It has an endearing quality to it, though, as Ted Litchfield from our team pointed out last week, it can be “player-unfriendly” or put more bluntly, “annoying nonsense”. I experienced this firsthand when, while playing with a few colleagues from PCG, we got a boss down to nearly defeated, attempted to finish it off, and were instantly wiped out by an attack that was hard to predict. We were Nightreign’d.
Nevertheless, according to an interview with CNET, combat director Junya Ishizaki urges you to have faith in yourself, particularly when dealing with a game that often seems unpredictable and seems to want to harm or kill you.
I’d like to assure you that I’ve conquered every boss in the game, and I’ve experienced all it has to offer – from multiplayer modes to solo play. Rest assured, it’s achievable, and I encourage you to have the courage to give it a go yourself.
Ah, certainly! It makes sense that the Combat Director for Nightreign would excel in combat, considering his role, doesn’t it? After all, taking on a solo challenge is no small feat, but it seems plausible he could manage some solo runs reminiscent of a lone ranger. At the very minimum, he should leverage the game’s relic systems to accomplish this, wouldn’t you agree?
“Yes. And without relics.” Aw, man.
Let me rephrase that for you: Ishizaki’s words are indeed motivational, and they remind me of nothing more than the polite yet transformative message Bandai Namco shared during the early days of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree – “This is a suggestion to enhance your Scadutree Blessing.” In simpler terms, both instances encourage us to improve our skills or abilities.
If you’re an expert at soullike games, there’s a good chance you could do it. It may not be entirely relic-free, but someone has already managed to beat the game solo without gaining any experience points – and every time I thought a FromSoftware game was challenging, a martial arts master has appeared on Twitch with nothing but a controller, an incredible level of patience, and focus honed in remote monasteries, and completed a no-hit run faster than I can blink.
I’d like to emphasize that Ishizaki’s achievements are certainly not going to leave you feeling down. Here’s my take on what might transpire: In fact, I believe it’s a certainty that within the next two months, someone will manage to pull off a complete Nightreign solo level one run, all while blindfolded, using just a dance pad and a saxophone. They’ll do this without missing a beat, even underwater with their hands bound. It’s only a matter of time before we witness this incredible feat.
