As a dedicated gamer, I’m eagerly waiting for Bethesda to spill the beans on their future plans for Starfield. So far, this sci-fi adventure has yet to captivate audiences like its predecessors, The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. It remains uncertain whether Starfield will join these franchises as a long-term series, but if it does, there’s a significant hurdle to overcome.
In the final act of ‘Starfield’, the narrative returned to its origins as players ascended into the Unity to assume the role of a Starborn. This innovative approach to New Game Plus was captivating, but it poses challenges for a sequel, given that it’s not immediately clear where the story should begin. Since there are whispers about ‘Starfield’ making its way onto the PS5, it seems Bethesda aims to broaden this IP. However, if they wish to continue the tale, exploring an entirely new direction might be the most suitable choice, given that ‘Starfield’ could potentially stand alone as a story.
A Sequel to Starfield May Be Best Off Starting From Scratch
Starfield’s Story Feels Wrapped Up
Regardless of the choices players make in Starfield, the ultimate goal is always for the protagonist to transform into a Starborn. While there are whispers that the next expansion for Starfield might be named “Starborn,” it’s yet to be confirmed. A sequel could certainly delve deeper into Starborn life, but that might be too obvious. Instead, it seems more intriguing if Bethesda were to let the Starfield sequel explore the world even more extensively rather than concentrating on the Starborn.
Starfield Could Play Around With a Time Jump
To make the IP even more captivating, Bethesda might want to think about delving into the past or future events. The idea of the United Colonies is intriguing, and a prequel set during the early stages of their formation could generate more excitement. Players could experience the role of a colony founder during the initial days of government establishment. Alternatively, a new game like Starfield could delve into an engaging chapter in the United Colonies’ history.
2196 marked the onset of the Narion War, with the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective engaging in fierce confrontations. A common complaint about Starfield is its worlds appearing devoid of life at times; however, incorporating a galactic war could lead to some captivating narrative developments. This two-decade-long conflict could offer players intricate moral dilemmas if they were tasked with picking allegiances, despite the predetermined outcome of the war.
The Narion War concluded when both groups agreed to sign the Treaty of Narion.
Starfield might work well as a self-contained tale, which means that if Bethesda intends to create another installment, choosing an entirely new direction could prove beneficial.
A Starfield Sequel Should Finally Embrace More Aliens
In an intriguing move, Bethesda opted for a more down-to-earth sci-fi atmosphere in Starfield, but perhaps excluding intelligent alien life could be limiting its potential. Although aliens aren’t essential in every sci-fi narrative, incorporating a novel alien faction into the game world might add an exciting layer of diversity. If Bethesda aims to broaden the horizons of Starfield, introducing alien characters could provide a solid foundation for a more captivating narrative.
Regardless of whether the aliens are hostile and seeking conflict with the United Colonies, or peaceful and eager to join our alliance, such an encounter could be a fresh start for the Starfield universe. Starfield, despite its initial challenges after release, offers Bethesda a chance to refine and expand upon a concept that remains intriguing if given another chance.
