In Redrock City, where the action-adventure game “MindsEye” is set, drones are an integral part of everyday life rather than just toys for aerial photography or videography. These advanced drones, manufactured by tech titan Silva Industries, serve multiple purposes including surveillance, communication, and other unspecified functions. The gamers of “MindsEye” will also get the unique opportunity to control their own drone comrades in battle.
Build A Rocket Boy, the developer behind MindsEye, shared with Game Rant that drones play a crucial role in the game. In the depiction of “near future Americana” known as Redrock City, drones have seamlessly integrated into daily routines. This integration is also evident in some of the earliest promotional materials for the game, where drones can be seen posed against both the towering cityscapes and the stark landscapes of the surrounding desert.
Drones Are Used As Surveillance In The “World’s Safest City”
Mayor Shiva Vega of Redrock City, played by Anjali Bhimani, aspires to transform her city into the most secure place globally. To achieve this, she has been instrumental in setting up a surveillance system that combines drones and robots, constantly tracking each citizen’s activities. These drones are manufactured by Marco Silva at Silva Corp. As described by Build A Rocket Boy, this monitoring system will play a crucial role in shaping the early stages of MindsEye’s game.
In the initial act of MindsEye, there’s a significant focus on the extensive monitoring network enabled by drones and robots within Redrock City. Our aim is for players to experience this surveillance system, hence the inclusion of numerous Silva Corp drones in the opening part of the game.
The Companion Drone Allows For Varied Combat Strategies
Following their initial exposure to drones through Silva Corp models, the main character Jacob Diaz (portrayed by Alex Hernandez) is subsequently equipped with a personal drone companion. This drone can be managed using his neural implant, known as MindsEye. The combat drone offers various capabilities: it serves for monitoring, supports Diaz in battles by either assaulting or diverting adversaries, among other functions. “Build A Rocket Boy” underscores that the companion drone will set MindsEye’s gameplay apart and maintain its rapid-fire combat experience engaging throughout the game.
The drone adds a dynamic and intense touch to every experience. It offers you the freedom to play offensively or defensively according to your preference, and its skills tend to improve consistently during your journey.
The developers underscored that the companion drone in combat isn’t compulsory for players, but it offers an exclusive twist to battling both human adversaries and Silva Corp’s robots. This flexibility supports a variety of playstyles, ranging from full-scale attacks to defensive or covert tactics. Intriguingly, they shared that each player who has tested our game has adopted distinct styles when utilizing the drone.
Moreover, the creators opted for an uncomplicated approach in drone gameplay, avoiding complex customization, except for aesthetic skins that could be bought for the drone’s companion. Using this drone is delightfully straightforward, as every time it acquires a new ability or upgrade, the player can utilize it straight away. MindsEye‘s developers likened upgrading the companion drone to savoring a tasty can of soda.
Enjoying a fresh soda is similar to a straightforward delight. Sweetening it further with artificial sweeteners just ruins its natural taste. A slice of lime can add a refreshing twist, and we’ve got some citrusy options available.
Boy Builds Rocket is eager to discover various tactics and applications that players will devise for the companion drone when MindsEye releases on June 10. Given that each playtester has brought forth something distinct, it’s likely that the game’s full release will spark even more creativity in the use of the companion drone as players delve into Redrock City.
