You can download the demo directly from the PlayStation Network at this moment (here’s the link). It has garnered more than 540 user reviews so far, boasting an average score of 4.89.

In the press release sent out by KOEI Tecmo, the publisher relays info about the game’s story.

In simpler terms, Nioh 3 narrates the story of a young warrior aiming to succeed as Japan’s next Shogun during the tumultuous Sengoku era. The game is set in an expansive open world, allowing players to roam and discover at their leisure, while experiencing the distinctive tension that is a hallmark of all Nioh games.

Additionally, it delves into the latest gameplay aspect, enabling players to switch between two battle styles during combat: Samurai and Ninja. The Samurai mode mimics the gameplay of previous Nioh titles, but includes fresh elements like “Arts Proficiency” and “Deflect.

The Ninja technique shines with swift agility, showcased in dodging and acrobatic moves, evident in the trailer. This agility provides players the upper hand as they can strike from beyond an adversary’s reach through employing diverse Ninjitsu skills. Players will have access to abilities such as “Mist,” which generates a decoy following an attack, and the “Dodge” move, enabling them to evade enemy assaults with precision.

If you’re considering trying out the demo, don’t wait too long as it will only be accessible until June 18, 2025. Also, remember that it can only be played online, not offline.

Completing the Nioh 3 alpha demo will reward players with a helmet item that can be used when the full game launches. No PlayStation Plus membership is needed for the demo, nor are Trophies earnable during this playtime.

While there’s currently no official release date for Nioh 3, considering that a demo is already available and we’re just about six months away from 2026, it seems unlikely that it won’t be launched in the first quarter of 2026 on PS5.
