After the release of Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.2 update, it appeared to many of us that the narrative arc involving character V and Johnny Silverhand had reached its conclusion in Night City.
As a passionate player, I was thrilled when they labeled 2.2 as the “last major update,” promising car paint customization, secret Balatro quests, and numerous fixes and enhancements. But then, in January, another update (Patch 2.21) came along, making refinements to these new features and squashing any fresh problems that emerged.
It appears that six months from now, Cyberpunk 2077 might get another significant update. During the REDStream Nintendo Switch demo, the Associate Game Director Pawel Sasko mentioned he would personally handle this update and more specifics are expected to be shared soon.
More Gas In The Tank?
Given the current projects underway, such as the development of the Cyberpunk sequel (Project Orion) and the upcoming Witcher 4, it’s unexpected to hear this news.
Today, he once more shared an update, urging followers to keep an eye out for additional details while also sharing a picture featuring the standard male V character dressed in a basketball uniform.
There seems to be debate on whether the upcoming update for Cyberpunk 2077 will just involve technical tweaks or constitute a full-blown DLC. However, back in December 2024, CDPR’s Global Community Director, Marcin Momot, stated that “the team still has some unspent energy,” suggesting there may be more to come for the game.
Since Project Orion is yet to be realized, enthusiasts of Cyberpunk can anticipate fresh content in Night City once more. Given the triumph of Phantom Liberty and the positive response to its incremental enhancements, it seems logical to continue satisfying loyal players by offering them an optimal experience.
Currently, the vibrant universe of Cyberpunk 2077 continues to thrive, as the latest addition to its comic lineup, Psycho Squad, was released earlier this year. Additionally, more Cyberpunk 2077 comics have been introduced.
Not only has it been verified, but there’s strong indication that an innovative animated series might soon debut on Netflix. Thus, it’s inaccurate to suggest that Cyberpunk 2077 is anywhere close to its demise at this point.
