The game titled “Mina the Hollower” has officially set its launch date for October 31, and also unveiled its initial playable demo. These exciting updates were shared in a fresh trailer, which was premiered during the Summer Game Fest 2025 event.

Developed by the creators behind Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games, Mina the Hollower is an engaging 2D action-adventure game reminiscent of beloved Game Boy Color classics such as The Legend of Zelda and Castlevania. Initially conceived as a side project by artist Alec Faulkner, it garnered over $1.4 million in funding on Kickstarter back in 2022.

Three years and six months after the triumphant crowdfunding campaign for “Mina the Hollower“, the retro action adventure has finally set its launch date: October 31. Yacht Club Games confirmed this with a fresh gameplay trailer, first shown at Summer Game Fest 2025. The promotional video provides another glimpse into the combat-focused gameplay of “Mina the Hollower“, and also introduces the main character, Mina, who’s endeavoring to break a puzzling island curse.

Mina the Hollower Limited-Time Demo Now Available

In addition to unveiling a new trailer, Yacht Club Games has also released the first playable demo for Mina the Hollower, which is now accessible on Steam. This trial version of the game includes all of Mina the Hollower’s opening stage, including its initial boss battle. The demo will be available at the June 2025 edition of Steam Next Fest and will take part in the event. It is scheduled to be removed from Valve’s storefront once the showcase concludes on June 16th. At this time, it is unknown whether the demo will return prior to Mina the Hollower’s fall 2025 release. However, one thing that has been confirmed is that any progress made in the demo will be carried over to the full version of Mina the Hollower. Yacht Club Games made this statement in a prepared announcement.

As a passionate admirer, I can’t help but be thrilled by the sneak peek of SGF 2025, particularly the enchanting character, Mina the Hollower. Her gothic charm is undeniably reminiscent of Castlevania, a tribute that adds to the game’s allure. From its inception, this project has been steeped in eerie themes, so much so that it was initially called Gothic before YGC decided on a new moniker.

What truly sets Mina the Hollower apart is the legendary composer, Yuzo Koshiro, who will be crafting the game’s soundtrack. Known for his timeless chiptune scores in classics like Streets of Rage, The Revenge of Shinobi, and the Ys series, among many others, his music promises to elevate this game to new heights.

Mina the Hollower, up until now, has only been officially announced for Steam. Yacht Club Games intends to launch it simultaneously on Windows, macOS, and Linux systems from day one. Given the developer-publisher’s history, there is a strong possibility that this retro action adventure will eventually become available on consoles as well.
