Scott Pilgrim Ex Reveals Arcade Brawling Action In Toronto

Following Ubisoft’s launch of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition, I assumed that was the end of the franchise for me. Given its engaging beat-’em-up style, and my affection for Scott Pilgrim, it seemed like pop culture had moved past this series.

Fortunately, instead of following the usual protocol, developer Tribute Games chose to unveil Scott Pilgrim EX during Summer Games Fest, yes, the very same Tribute Games renowned for their work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.

The team is equally busy with the forthcoming Marvel Cosmic Incursion, a traditional brawler game, which is scheduled for launch by the end of this year.

Eric Lafontaine, the marketing and publishing manager of Tribute, explained to Polygon that returning to the original IP (intellectual property) for their new game feels almost instinctive. It’s like a part of their heritage, and it’s just a matter of growing from those roots to create something exceptional yet different. In essence, it’s a natural progression.

Producer Remi Lavoie also told Polygon how Scott Pilgrim Ex differs from Marvel Cosmic Invasion.

Scott Pilgrim is essentially an adventure game where you journey through the world, accomplishing tasks, whereas Marvel Cosmic Invasion leans more towards classic beat-’em-ups with stage after stage completion. Essentially, they are quite distinct, even in their combat systems: [Scott Pilgrim EX] heavily emphasizes weaponry, allowing you to grab everyday objects and turn them into weapons for battle.

Scott Pilgrim Ex Features Up To 4-Player Co-Op

In Scott Pilgrim EX, you can choose from up to seven different characters to play with, including the main characters Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers. The original series creator, Bryan Lee O’Malley, has also returned to write an entirely fresh, unique storyline for this game.

In this game, you have the option to team up with as many as three other players, either nearby or online. This allows for flexible grouping where players can join and leave the game at will, offering a cooperative gaming experience.

Here’s a brief description from the game’s Steam page.

Arrange fashionable combos, try out eccentric weaponry, and perform extravagant special moves. Characters can be improved with unique badges that boost their abilities and offer exclusive perks. Players will traverse a city made up of interlinked levels to encounter familiar and new characters, accomplish tasks, and find secret locations.

In the year 2026, you’ll be able to play Scott Pilgrim EX on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S!
