I can hardly contain my excitement as I share this fantastic news with you! It’s none other than Scott Pilgrim who’s making an unexpected comeback, appearing in a brand-new cooperative brawler titled Scott Pilgrim EX, unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2025. The game’s trailer hints at a thrilling time-twisted and action-packed adventure that echoes the style of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game.
The Scott Pilgrim franchise, brainchild of Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O’Malley, originated from a graphic novel series consisting of six volumes that were published annually between 2004 and 2009. The narrative centers around the lead character, Scott Pilgrim, a laid-back 23-year-old musician who finds himself smitten with the enigmatic Ramona Flowers. To win her heart, he must confront each of her seven formidable former lovers in combat. In 2010, this series was brought to life on the big screen through a film titled Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Subsequently, it also inspired a video game version. Despite not being blockbuster successes, both adaptations garnered mainly positive reviews and cultivated dedicated fan bases.
In 2025 at Summer Game Fest, fans are excited about the comeback of a well-known series with the new video game titled “Scott Pilgrim EX“. Developed by Tribute Games, this Montreal studio is known for its team members who were previously part of Ubisoft and worked on “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game“. Bryan Lee O’Malley, creator of the series, has also returned to co-write the game’s storyline and serve as creative consultant for “Scott Pilgrim EX“. Known as a cooperative brawler, this upcoming title is expected to be a thrilling experience.
Scott Pilgrim Veterans Returning for Scott Pilgrim EX
- Bryan Lee O’Malley: the creator of the Scott Pilgrim comic book series
- Anamanaguchi: the band who scored Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game
- Paul Robertson: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game art director
- BenDavid Grabinski: Scott Pilgrim Takes Off director and showrunner
As I, an avid gamer, eagerly anticipate the release of Scott Pilgrim EX, its SGF 2025 trailer has piqued my interest with the promise of seven playable characters, five of which are former rivals. Following the events of Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off anime, this game continues the storyline, a fact confirmed by showrunner BenDavid Grabinski in a statement to Polygon.
Coming back to this world feels like the most natural thing ever.
The game can be played alone, but it also includes a cooperative mode for as many as four players. Additionally, split-screen multiplayer is included in the game, although the exact number of local players supported hasn’t been officially disclosed yet.
Speaking about it, Jonathan Lavigne, the game director, mentioned that returning to this world feels incredibly familiar – a sentiment born from the fact that all Tribute Games founders previously worked on the highly acclaimed beat-em-up co-op game, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” The upcoming sequel, titled “Scott Pilgrim EX,” is tentatively set for release in 2026, though an exact date has yet to be announced. The game is expected to be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms.
