The Four Psion Subclasses in Dungeons and Dragons
Metamorph – Sculpt the Body Like Wolverine or Mister Fantastic
- Level 3: Metamorph Spells, Organic Weapons, Extended Limbs
- Level 6: Extra Attack, Quickened Healing
- Level 10: Mutable Form
- Level 14: Life-Bending Weapons
As a gamer, I’m all about transforming my character in this game. I can morph my limbs into weapons of destruction, stretch or contract them to adapt to any situation, and twist my form in ways that would make an artist envious. My Quickened Healing and Life-Bending Weapons grant me the power to heal myself and my team with my psionic energy, making me a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
Through his extraordinary healing capacity and retractable metal claws, Marvel’s Weapon X mutant Wolverine is symbolized by abilities such as Rapid Healing and Biological Weapons. Yet, capabilities such as Elongated Limbs and Shape-Shifting can mirror the flexible powers exhibited by characters like Mr. Fantastic.
Psi Warper – Warp Around Like Nightcrawler or Doctor Strange
- Level 3: Psi Warper Spells, Teleportation, Warp Propel
- Level 6: Warp Space, Teleporter Combat
- Level 10: Duplicitous Target
- Level 14: Mass Teleportation
The Psi Warper manipulates combat situations by altering space itself. They have the ability to enhance spells such as Misty Step and Shatter with their Psychic Energy, and they can also augment the Telekinetic Propel trait of the basic Psion class. At higher levels, they can exchange positions with allies to dodge attacks, and even rearrange large groups of allies or adversaries on the battlefield.
The way the Psi Warper specializes in teleportation mirrors Nightcrawler’s skillset. Similar to Nightcrawler, who can move himself and others over short distances, which aligns with the Psionic archetype’s abilities, the Psi Warper possesses these capabilities. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange’s well-known portals in the Marvel universe function in a similar manner, making it straightforward to study dimensional manipulations, the specialty of the Sorcerer Supreme, with this subclass.
Psykinetic – Control Matter Like Magneto or The Invisible Woman
- Level 3: Psykinetic Spells, Telekinetic Techniques
- Level 6: Empowered Attack Mode, Rebounding Field
- Level 10: Enhanced Telekinetic Crush
- Level 14: Heightened Telekinesis
The Psykinetic is one of two subclasses for Psions, excelling in skills similar to the latest Dungeons and Dragons class, but with a superior edge. This subclass specializes in refining Telekinetic Propel and Attack Mode abilities, as well as harmonizing with spells such as Shield, Telekinetic Crush, and Telekinesis. The Psykinetic showcases mastery over energy by crafting defensive shields and unleashing potent force, primarily using their abilities to generate protective barriers and aggressive power.
Magneto’s signature abilities can essentially be mirrored using a Psykinetic’s telekinesis and the hovering capacity of Empowered Attack Mode. Similarly, players can experience the powers of The Invisible Woman as depicted in Marvel Rivals by utilizing spells like Otiluke’s Resilient Sphere, Wall of Force, and Invisibility.
Telepath – Master the Mind Like Professor X or Jean Gray
- Level 3: Telepath Spells, Mind Infiltrator, Telepathic Hub
- Level 6: Empowered Defense Mode, Potent Thoughts
- Level 10: Telepathic Bolstering
- Level 14: Scramble Minds
The last and ultimate Psion subclass is one that strongly embraces the class’ central theme. The Telepath amplifies Psion abilities such as Telepathic Connection and Defense Mode, and enhances spells like Detect Thoughts and Confusion when used alongside Psionic Energy. These mental masters can also boost allies with telepathic assistance, making them effective support characters.
This subclass’ skills evoke memories of Professor X, a renowned telepath in the X-Men series. Similarly, Jean Grey is famously known for her telepathic abilities; however, given her exceptional powers in the X-Men, she might also possess traits similar to those of the Psykinetic character.
