A fresh video game featuring the Wu-Tang group, titled “Wu-Tang: The Ascent of the Deceiver”, is currently under development. This was unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2025. Known as an action RPG set in a magical universe, this forthcoming title will be available on both PC and console platforms.
It’s speculated that the game titled “Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver” has been in production since at least 2021, as initial hints about its creation surfaced online. Initial whispers from within the industry portrayed it as a cooperative melee game featuring a Wu-Tang soundtrack, and they often referred to it using the code name Project Shaolin.
2025 at Summer Game Fest, New York’s Brass Lion Entertainment finally unveiled the long-whispered title for their project: Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver. This was done through a debut trailer that showcased a mix of pre-made visuals and gameplay clips. The footage indicates that the game will sport an anime aesthetic, as seen in the gameplay snippets. As for gameplay, Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver is an action RPG offering both single-player and online co-op modes for up to three players. The narrative centers around players defending their home of Shaolin from the corrupting influence of the Deceiver character.
Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver Started as a Horror Film Tie-In
Originally conceived as a video game spinoff for the supernatural horror thriller Angel of Dust, directed by RZA and produced by Ghostface Killah (both prominent Wu-Tang Clan members), Rise of the Deceiver eventually transformed into an independent project. It intends to offer a blend of Afro-surrealism, anime elements, ARPG gameplay mechanics, and character customization options. The game’s soundtrack is expected to feature both iconic Wu-Tang songs and fresh tracks, supervised by eight-time Grammy-nominated producer Just Blaze.
Rise of the Deceiver Is The First Wu-Tang Game in the 21st Century
The upcoming title, “Rise of the Deceiver“, signals Wu-Tang Clan’s comeback to the gaming world after a gap of nearly 25 years. This iconic hip-hop group previously appeared in a fighting game named “Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style” or “Wu-Tang: Taste the Pain“, which was launched towards the end of 1999, exclusively for Sony’s original PlayStation console.
Instead of that, let me rephrase it: Unlike other games, Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver is scheduled to be released on various platforms such as PC and gaming consoles. Although the specific consoles haven’t been disclosed yet, it seems probable that it will debut on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S since it’s expected to come out soon, likely within this console generation. The game is also slated to offer Steam Family Sharing support, as indicated by its listing on Valve’s storefront where players can already add it to their wishlist. At the moment, Brass Lion Entertainment has not revealed any release date or pricing information.
