Video games don’t always have to revolve around violence and destruction; there are numerous titles offering enjoyable experiences through vibrant characters and visits to intriguing locales, such as Lou’s Lagoon on Steam. This game focuses on peaceful and soothing journeys that aren’t overly demanding on your thumbs or precious free time.
In this story, Lou from Lou’s Lagoon, who happens to be our main character’s uncle, runs a seaplane delivery business called Lou’s Delivery. This business serves the scattered islands within the Limbo Archipelago, delivering essential goods to its inhabitants.
In this scenario, Lou’s niece, whose name isn’t mentioned, is simultaneously looking for her lost relative and managing the business on her own. Fortunately, she is well-equipped for this task. She uses The Swirler 2000, a gadget resembling a vacuum cleaner, to gather resources and build structures. Additionally, she owns a seaplane, which comes in handy for navigating the collection of islands that make up the archipelago.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve just dived into the vibrant world of Lou’s Lagoon. Sailing through its enchanting islands, I’ve met some peculiar residents that have left quite an impression on me.
Home Is Where The Hub Is
In Lou’s Lagoon, the primary island is known as Tanglebloom Town, serving as the central point for gameplay interactions. It hosts a few shops and characters who offer quests to initiate the action. Among these are Jane’s Lab, where players can buy enhancements for their equipment.
Initially, the main character puts on aviator attire and searches online, but this setup can easily be altered since the Button Bliss store allows you to switch outfits at will. These costume choices don’t influence gameplay and are solely for the player to pick their favorite appearance.
When it’s time to leave, the player has an option to sail a small boat towards Norleaf Island, which is near enough that flying isn’t necessary. Norleaf presents a vibrant, lively scene with various plants scattered across its landscape in diverse colors. As you progress, you’ll notice towering water spouts, but they can’t be interacted with directly. However, there’s a method to turn them into solid structures, and it involves collecting resources.
One delightful feature of Lou’s Lagoon is its charming inhabitants – a cast of adorable animal characters who are consistently helpful and eager to engage in friendships. These creatures add an element of excitement to the world, making it a captivating destination to explore.
In Tanglebloom Town, you’ll encounter characters that resemble animals and play roles as guides for quests and merchants. Some of these inhabitants enjoy socializing and chatting, contributing to the game’s laid-back atmosphere, as finding your uncle isn’t portrayed as an urgent or life-threatening rescue operation, more like a leisurely journey.
Hoovering is The Ideal Way To Pick Up Plants

On your exciting journey through Lou’s Lagoon, The Swirler 2000 serves as a valuable companion. In essence, it’s reminiscent of both Luigi’s vacuum and Mario’s F.L.U.D.D., design-wise, but unlike them, its primary purpose is to collect resources scattered across the overworld.
As a nature enthusiast, I’ve discovered an intriguing aspect of the Swirler 2000 – it’s not just for interacting with animals, but also extracting resources from them without causing harm. In this context, the Beevers, these peculiar creatures that some might call ‘abominations’, are particularly useful. They naturally produce a substance known as Beever Sap, and the Swirler 2000 allows me to harvest it efficiently. This resource gathering process expands my collection of crafting materials, enabling me to create new items as needed for various purposes.
After collecting some Waterberries from the nearby pond, players can employ them on water spouts (by using The Swirler 2000) to transform them into growths that function as stepping stones for accessing new locations. This enables you to get to Bobster, a lobster resembling Hulk Hogan, who serves as the next quest provider. He requires aid in repairing the radio towers on the island, so it’s time to continue your exploration.
In Lou’s Lagoon, the primary mechanic revolves around this cycle: players traverse various locations, collect resources with the Swirler 2000, construct items, receive new objectives, and repeat. The main character also possesses a double jump and gliding abilities to streamline movement, minimizing unnecessary wandering.
In Lou’s Lagoon, there’s no direct fighting, but enemies might appear later on who can snatch your treasures. However, you can retrieve your loot from them. This game offers an exciting adventure, challenging enough to keep you engaged, yet it won’t leave you feeling anxious or in danger of a panic attack due to repeated attacks.
The Skies & Beaches Of Lou’s Lagoon Are Important
After wrapping up the initial training levels, I’m now able to fix up my very own seaplane! This means I can traverse the diverse islands of this breathtaking archipelago not just by blinking between locations, but by soaring through the skies and immersing myself in the beauty of each island as I go.
Similar to the main islands, you won’t find intense dogfights with vicious dogs or waves of alien spacecraft firing at you. Instead, the most demanding part of the aerial section lies in the optional ring-flying challenges. In comparison to other parts of the game, these can be quite tricky because precision maneuvering the plane is particularly challenging in its current state.
The player has the option to personalize the appearance of their aircraft, but keep in mind that it’s strictly for aesthetic purposes. You won’t find more powerful engines here to help with the ring challenge or make flying easier. Instead, it’s simply about giving your plane a stylish look as you soar through the skies.
In certain parts of Lou’s Lagoon, you can design structures like beach houses and decorations freely. Currently, this is just for visual appeal, but the developers mentioned they might turn it into a gameplay feature where building items becomes necessary to progress.
At present, Lou’s Lagoon is set up primarily for individual play, meaning these decorative features are mainly intended to enhance the solo player’s understanding. It’s anticipated that these elements will eventually be incorporated into the main gameplay, making constructing an elaborate beach house more appealing since it offers increased rewards.
Closing Comments
Lou’s Lagoon is currently in its initial stages of development, yet it already demonstrates great potential. If you’re seeking a tranquil game to engage with while enjoying a podcast, this could be an ideal match. The immersive world of Lou’s Lagoon appears to be an intriguing destination, and we eagerly anticipate spending more time there upon its release on Steam.
