The expansive Mario Kart World presents numerous tests for a player’s driving prowess, hidden throughout its sprawling landscape. Engaging these trials can be done by driving over conspicuous large blue markers dispersed across the world. These trials encompass everything from straightforward races to coin-gathering missions, all the way up to demanding time-based challenges that require exceptional precision.
In the game “Mario Kart World”, one tough task that requires skill is called “Overtake Shy Guys in a River Race”. Here, players race upstream on a river section, aiming to reach a finishing ring placed at the end. The difficulty lies in the strict time limit, but luckily, you’re given six mushroom power-ups to help during your run. Timely use of these power-ups and taking advantage of ramps for jumps to get speed bonuses are essential for mastering this task.
How to Overtake Shy Guys in an Upriver Race in Mario Kart World
As an enthusiast, I can’t wait to embark on the Upriver Race! To kick things off, navigate your way to the spot indicated on the provided map and park at the designated button. This action will initiate the race and provide a brief guide to our destination.
First, submerge your vehicle in the water and skillfully drift beneath the bridge while grabbing the item boxes. This maneuver will give you a slight boost, which is always helpful! Additionally, don’t forget to collect six mushrooms along the way. These precious items should be saved for the challenge ahead, so hang onto them for now if you wish to conquer it successfully.
Along your path, you’ll find a series of small rock-covered islands. These islands are crucial for achieving additional speed. As you near the first island (depicted in image 1 above), utilize a mushroom to accelerate upon landing on the sand and target the rocks. Press the R key when you reach the summit of the rock to execute a jump. Perform some flips mid-air, ensuring you land right-side up for an extra speed boost. If you’re on the correct path, you should either match or nearly catch up with the first Shy Guy immediately following this island, as you approach a bridge.
As you approach the bridge, it’s advisable to take a broad turn for an additional small lift. Then, target the island on your right (the one visible in the first image above). For a repeat performance, use the technique you employed earlier to leap over the sandy stretch and bounce off a rock as you head towards the third and final island.
On your final island, there’s a longer expanse of sand separating you from the stone you must jump from, which means you’ll need to employ two mushrooms to reach your destination without slowing down. Time the second mushroom so it activates when the first one expires, then leap from the third rock and shoot for the goal. Utilize any remaining boosts to cover the distance swiftly, and you should manage to hit the goal in the nick of time.
