This article contains spoilers for Resident Evil 7, its DLC, and Resident Evil Village.
In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, players were introduced to the terrifying Baker family, infamous for their strained familial bonds and grotesque transformations. This game is highly appreciated not only for its storyline, but also for its innovative gameplay. As Ethan Winters, the main character, you explore the creepy Baker mansion in search of your missing wife, while uncovering how Eveline manipulated and infected them with her mysterious powers.
In the narrative of “Resident Evil 7”, the protagonist, Ethan, battles against Jack and Marguerite Baker, as well as navigating Lucas Baker’s traps scattered throughout the Baker Ranch. Guiding him through this chilling ordeal is Zoe Baker, who, though infected with a virus, remains resistant to Eveline’s mind control. This makesher unique among the Baker family. Zoe significantly assists Ethan in his escape from the ominous ranch within “Resident Evil 7”, and her ultimate destiny within the franchise adds another layer of intrigue.
Zoe Baker’s Story Beyond the Events of Resident Evil 7 is an Important Piece of Lore
What Happened to Zoe Baker in Resident Evil 7?
In the primary plot of Resident Evil 7, Zoe plays a supporting role by guiding Ethan via phone conversations. She resembles Ada Wong from Resident Evil 4, who assists the protagonist in his quest to find his wife, Mia Winters. Furthermore, the Daughters tape from the Banned Footage Vol. 2 DLC provides a backstory for Zoe, revealing her decision to rebel against her family after Eveline infected them. This rebellion stems from her desire to discover a cure, and Ethan is the only one capable of achieving this objective on her behalf.
Sadly, Ethan could only retrieve one cure and chose to administer it to Mia. This decision sparked anger in Zoe, who demanded the couple abandon her at the pier of the ranch, an action that would eventually lead to the “End of Zoe” DLC for Resident Evil 7.
In Resident Evil 7, players are presented with a choice: they can opt to save either Mia or Zoe. This decision leads to two distinct conclusions for the game.
How the Resident Evil 7 End of Zoe DLC Ties Up Zoe Baker’s Story
In brief, the downloadable content titled “The End of Zoe” unfolds shortly following Ethan and Mia’s departure with Zoe at the pier close to Baker Ranch. Eveline captures and petrifies Zoe as retribution for her aid in the couple’s escape, yet miraculously, Zoe remains alive despite her condition. A few weeks later, Chris Redfield and forces from Blue Umbrella embark on a rescue operation for Zoe, which leads them to the cabin of Joe Baker – Zoe’s paternal uncle – who is the main character in “The End of Zoe.
The game titled “End of Zoe ” primarily revolves around locating a cure that can rescue Zoe from her petrified condition. Players accompany Joe on his journey through the swamps and Baker’s estate, searching for the serum, all while battling the Swamp Man – an ominous manifestation of Jack in his latest form. Upon vanquishing the beast, Chris Redfield and Blue Umbrella operatives appear to save both Zoe and Joe.
In the midst of my quarantine recovery, I received a call from Ethan – a gentleman who had graciously kept his word by sending aid my way. As I unraveled the deluxe edition of Resident Evil 8, a text slideshow unfolded, revealing my post-quarantine life. I took up a career as a reporter in New Orleans, persistently chasing the origins of Eveline and her connections to the criminal organization known as The Connections. To my surprise, the story led me to discover that the Winters family had moved to Eastern Europe, setting the stage for Resident Evil Village. In this new location, Ethan and I were blessed with a child named Rosemary Winters.
In the additional content of “Resident Evil Village,” Zoe’s presence has yet to be seen again, but her involvement suggests that she could potentially have a part in the upcoming “Resident Evil” game. However, since Ethan is already deceased and there’s no confirmation about Rosemary for “Resident Evil 9,” this remains speculative. It’d be intriguing to explore how Zoe might intermingle with existing “Resident Evil” characters in a future installment, whether as a playable character or offering support.
