For prolonged periods, Tom would fast, finding relief from hunger only when his master granted permission. It is said that in moments of extreme hunger, Tom resorted to eating his own toes. On infrequent occasions when he was fed, a bell would always toll.

Upon coming home and being scorned by her father yet again about her career bringing shame to their family name, Jolene grew filled with resentment. Yearning for liberty, Jolene quietly slipped past her father’s slumber and rang Tom’s doorbell. Noticing no edible options nearby, Tom bit his abusive master.

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but be captivated by the tale that serves as the foundation for Two-Toed Tom. This legend harks back to the Deep South, where Tom was said to be a colossal 14-foot alligator that instilled fear in the hearts of residents from Florida and Alabama. This terrifying beast reportedly feasted on livestock and people without mercy.

However, the version of Two-Toed Tom I’ve come to know lost his toes in a steel trap set by determined hunters. In the folklore that has been passed down through generations, this formidable creature is depicted as an invincible beast, seemingly immune to the destructive power of bullets and even dynamite.

Overwhelmed by sorrow and regret, I released Tom back to nature, hoping for his survival in the wild. It turned out that fate led him to a bustling pig farm, where sights of abundant food left him spellbound. Unable to resist temptation, he forced his way into the farm and devoured every swine within reach. With each bite, Tom’s size continued to expand.

Tom, who had always lived perilously close to hunger, came to never underestimate a meal, for any could potentially be his last. This constant dread embedded itself within him, leading to an unquenchable hunger that expanded over time.
