Ever since the debut of InZOI, there have been numerous comparisons drawn between this new simulation game and the well-established The Sims franchise. This comparison has persisted even post-release, as people discuss similarities in their gameplay mechanics, pricing, and various other aspects. Both critics and gamers have considered InZOI a formidable rival to The Sims, which marked its 25th anniversary this year. However, with all the buzz around InZOI, its developers should keep an eye on the future if they aim to maintain their competitive edge against The Sims at the same rate.
The popular video game series, The Sims, boasts a wide range of properties across various platforms and is working on upcoming projects in the near future. This provides Krafton with ample content to consider as it maps out InZOI’s future. However, an enigmatic project from The Sims team could potentially give InZOI a significant advantage if they manage to surpass it.
Project Rene Looks to Be the Future of The Sims
There isn’t much public information available about the mysterious Project Rene. From its initial unveiling, it appears that Electronic Arts (EA) and Maxis have ambitious plans for this project, which they have described as essentially the fifth installment of The Sims series. Project Rene is expected to be a multiplayer, cross-platform experience, enabling players to immerse themselves in a shared simulation world similar to previous games in the The Sims franchise. This means that users can play with friends and even strangers online. It’s worth noting that cross-platform gameplay is something that The Sims series has dabbled with in the past, with The Sims 4 being available on both PC and console. However, the console version of The Sims 4 has received criticism for its user interface, speed, and other aspects. In contrast, Project Rene’s emphasis on cross-platform compatibility implies that EA and Maxis may dedicate more resources to ensuring consistent performance across all platforms.
It appears that Project Rene‘s multiplayer components may be a significant highlight, as suggested by leaked information from EA and Maxis regarding the game’s playtests. In one instance, players were seen working in a virtual coffee shop, with other players portraying customers. Working at the coffee shop would generate Simoleons for players to spend at a clothing store. While all leaks should be viewed cautiously, if similar play tests continue to emerge, it seems that Project Rene‘s multiplayer aspects could indeed make the game stand out distinctly.
InZOI Should Have a Mobile Edition
It would be particularly advantageous for InZOI to explore Project Rene’s cross-platform features, considering its progress in multiplayer gameplay through Canvas, akin to The Sims’ Gallery. Expanding InZOI into a cross-platform title could increase its reach to more players. While InZOI is planned for console release, it should aim to emulate Project Rene’s approach further. Creating a mobile version of InZOI not only distinguishes it from the Sims series but also demonstrates that Krafton and InZOI can challenge the dominance of the simulation genre giants.
The Sims series includes several mobile games, with The Sims Mobile being the most recognized, but it’s not the same as a mobile version of The Sims 4. When InZOI enters the mobile gaming market, it shouldn’t just produce a mobile game under the InZOI franchise. Instead, they should create a mobile version of their current title. EA and Maxis have expressed that Project Rene is intended to be a completely cross-platform game. Although there are no confirmed plans for InZOI to venture into mobile gaming, it’s something Krafton might want to think about for InZOI once the new hit simulation title has left early access.
