- Dynamight evolves but struggles with old habits, needing to control his aggression to be a true hero.
In the universe of “My Hero Academia“, it’s a common aspiration for individuals to transform into Pro Heroes. People with powerful Quirks are admired and inspired because they’re seen as potential candidates to become some of the world’s most esteemed heroes. However, the storyline also emphasizes that even those with less potent abilities or those without any Quirk at all can carve out their own heroic paths. Characters like Deku and others serve as examples, proving they play significant roles in shaping the events within the series.
As a fervent fan of MHA, I can’t help but notice that each hero in this series possesses an extraordinary skill set, yet some carry inherent character flaws that demand attention. While some heroes can’t be entirely faulted for their vulnerabilities – whether due to personal struggles, injuries, or even their very natures – it’s clear that a handful of these heroes need more profound transformation and should remember the essence of what true heroism entails.
1. Toshinori Yagi (All Might)
Left With A Devastating Injury
In the anime “My Hero Academia,” it was later revealed that The Symbol of Peace, All Might, had more flaws than initially perceived at the start. After a fierce battle with All For One years ago, he sustained severe injuries, limiting his daily hero duties significantly. At the onset of the series, this amounted to only three hours per day, but following the USJ incident, it reduced drastically to less than an hour. Furthermore, after saving Katsuki BakugÅ from All For One and engaging in another confrontation with him, All Might lost his powers permanently. However, what stands out most is the sense of emptiness felt worldwide due to the absence of The Symbol of Peace.
In retrospect, beyond my own perceived shortcomings, All Might towered excessively over the everyday hero landscape during his prime, casting long shadows that obscured the rising stars attempting to make their mark. This relentless brilliance ignited a fierce ambition within Endeavor, ultimately leading him down a dark path. Despite being an icon adored by countless fans, perhaps All Might’s legendary status was too overwhelming for the hero community. When he hung up his cape, the void left behind served as fertile ground for the nefarious to sow seeds of chaos and seize control.
2. Enji Todoroki (Endeavor)
The Past Never Dies
Endeavor, renowned for his fire abilities, ascended to the second-ranked hero position through sheer determination. Despite standing behind All Might’s shadow as a hero, he harbored ambitions of outshining him and claiming the Number one spot. Regrettably, no matter how diligently he strived, he couldn’t displace All Might, leading to his obsession and the formulation of an infamous scheme: fathering a child destined to surpass All Might. This ambition molded him into the largely abusive father figure, compelling his son Shoto to become a hero, while neglecting his other offspring. For Toya, his eldest son, this mistreatment bore severe consequences.
After being an imposing figure, Endeavor’s status as the new Number One Hero has led to frequent comparisons with his predecessor, splitting public opinion about him. The revelation that the villain Dabi is actually Toya Todoroki, Endeavor’s eldest son, further tarnishes his image. Despite undergoing a significant transformation in his personality, Endeavor’s past actions will continue to haunt him and serve as a persistent flaw in his character.
3. Minoru Mineta (Grape Juice)
A Certain Major Character Flaw Needs Addressing
In the world of My Hero Academia, Mineta is often seen as a controversial figure and not particularly popular among fans. He’s frequently depicted as being extremely fearful and prone to panicking, such as during the USJ incident. This behavior even leads Tsu to question whether hero work is suitable for him. Fortunately, with the support and cooperation of Tsu and Deku, they were able to escape the villains, but Mineta took a considerable amount of time before showing signs of overcoming his cowardice. As the story progresses, he continues to struggle with this weakness.
This character’s main issues are his tendency toward inappropriate behavior (often played for comedic effect) and an unheroic appearance, which is only worsened by his costume. Consequently, he hasn’t gained any romantic attention and has yet to be recognized as heroic by others. However, he remains undeterred. When Grape Juice transitions to a professional setting, it’s crucial for him to address these flaws, as they could hinder people from trusting him and feeling secure around him in times of need.
4. Katsuki Bakugo (Dynamight)
His Heart Has Changed, But He Needs To Show It
Initially, Katsuki displayed signs of psychological instability, stemming from his perception that his self-worth hinged on physical strength. After losing to Deku initially, finding himself unable to match up to Todoroki, getting abducted, and subsequently failing his Licensing Exam, he grappled with a profound identity crisis, further eroding his already fragile self-assurance. However, these experiences ultimately transformed him significantly from his early series persona. He discovered the essence of genuine strength, the traits of an authentic hero, and understood that offering and accepting aid is not indicative of vulnerability but rather a demonstration of compassion.
Despite Katsuki demonstrating advancement, he struggles with slipping back into old patterns, particularly his short temper. It’s important to acknowledge that this is largely due to a genetic trait he inherited from his mother, making it an intrinsic part of his personality. However, as a hero, Katsuki must work on mastering and curbing this aspect of himself to ensure it doesn’t compromise his public image or the sense of security among civilians. While beneath his tough facade lies a brave hero ready to sacrifice himself for those in peril, Katsuki’s frequent outbursts, anger issues, loud voice, and harsh language unfortunately can be seen as a significant weakness in the aspiring Pro Hero Dynamight.
5. Yuga Aoyama (Can’t Stop Twinkling)
His Past Trauma Would Massively Impact His Identity
From the beginning, Yuga Aoyama found difficulty utilizing his navel laser due to its incompatibility with his body, leading to uncomfortable side effects when used for extended periods. However, it was later disclosed that he was actually born without a Quirk. His parents, concerned about their son’s social standing and self-worth in a society where having or not having a Quirk significantly influences perception by others, as evident with Bakugo, sought help from All For One. To prevent their child from becoming an outcast, they allowed All For One to bestow a Quirk upon Yuga, but this came at the cost of falling under his control and manipulation.
This ordeal left an indelible mark on Aoyama. Despite his efforts to maintain a dazzling exterior, beneath it all lies a tormented soul grappling with guilt and fear of being found out by his peers. When Aoyama’s identity as the U.A. traitor was exposed, he bore deep wounds that would significantly shape his persona, long after the war had ended. Fortunately, Aoyama managed to make amends and took on the role of a sidekick for the Invisible Girl.
6. Denki Kaminari (Chargebolt)
Relies On Others To See Him Through
Among the vibrant and amiable members of Class 1-A, Denki Kaminari stands out, but his character has noticeable flaws. Instead of approaching hero work with dedication, he tends to take it easy and lean on others excessively rather than utilizing his own talents. On numerous occasions, he heavily depends on Bakugo’s and Kirishima’s abilities, as well as Bakugo’s natural leadership skills, to extricate them from difficult situations. This was evident in the “Do or Die Survival Training” OVA and the Provisional License exam. In both instances, Bakugo ended up instructing him since he didn’t think critically or assess situations as a prospective hero should learn to do.
For years, Denki has often been the subject of ridicule because of his poor grades and the frequent mishaps caused by overusing his power. He consistently ranks last in class and even fails major exams. Yet, as time passes, he learns to work better within a team, showing this growth during the Joint Training arc where he no longer solely depends on others for help. Denki played a crucial role in the Final War, and if he continues to think independently, he’ll develop into a self-reliant professional.
7. Tamaki Amajiki (Suneater)
Incredibly Powerful, Yet Shy
Tamaki Amajiki, a beloved character in the series, boasts one of the most peculiar Quirks. He’s associated with U.A.’s renowned trio, which includes Lemillion and Nejire Hado. However, Amajiki is often recognized more for his shyness rather than his high-profile status. Struggling with self-confidence, this trait has been a part of him. Fortunately, over the years, his friends have helped him become less timid.
It’s evident that Amajiki could significantly grow by conquering his shyness and boosting his self-assurance. His career as a Pro Hero might be influenced by his excessive timidity, especially when in the presence of others. As a Pro, public trust is crucial, and Amajiki’s low confidence could impact how he is viewed by the public and their feelings of safety.
8. Uwabami
Too Selfish And Needs To Change Her Priorities

In simpler terms, Snake Hero Uwabami is primarily known for rescuing people following disasters, as demonstrated after All Might’s fight against All For One. While she plays a supporting role during the Paranormal Liberation War, she becomes more notable in the internship storyline of season two. She invites Momo Yaoyorozu and Itsuka Kendo to work with her as interns, but their hopes are soon disappointed due to Uwabami’s self-centered motives. Although they work together and she recognizes their hero potential, Uwabami confesses that she selected them specifically for a commercial collaboration.
It’s evident that Uwabami appears to prioritize fame, popularity, and luxury associated with being a Pro Hero over her primary duty of rescuing people. Instead of instructing her trainees about the essence of heroism, she seems more concerned with expanding her fan base. This shortcoming in her character is a significant issue, reflecting a broader problem within hero society that figures like Stain and the League of Villains vehemently criticize. To truly embody a hero, Uwabami must strive to be less self-centered and more devoted to serving others rather than seeking personal glory.
