Summary
- Johnny Joestar’s anime design for Steel Ball Run has sparked mixed reactions among fans.

- Concerns about Steel Ball Run’s release date and format, with fans hoping for a non-Netflix exclusive.
At long last, the Steel Ball Run arc from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure will be brought to life as an anime series! Ever since Part 6 concluded its run in 2021-2022, fans of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure have eagerly awaited this latest installment.
In natural and easy-to-read language: The upcoming sixth chapter in the story is tentatively titled “Steel Ball Run,” and it’s expected to be produced by Studio David Production, similar to its preceding seasons. Ever since the announcement, fans have been buzzing about the potential look of Johnny Joestar, the main character for this segment.
What’s “Wrong” With Johnny Joestar’s Anime Design?

It appears that Johnny’s concept for the anime incorporates his standard attire along with various manga-inspired color schemes. In essence, it bears a striking resemblance to his design in the game “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle,” albeit with some variations in hues.
Nevertheless, spectators soon picked up on the fact that the modifications appeared to streamline his design – and for certain individuals, it was overly simplified. Despite the general enthusiasm that a Steel Ball Run anime has been greenlit, Johnny’s design ignited debate among fans.
What Do Fans Think About Johnny’s Design?
Majority of fans seem content with the design, acknowledging room for improvement but appreciating its animation-friendly nature, implying they recognize the need for simplistic designs to ensure a smoother animation process. Some even anticipate that the final design could surpass the conceptual version, as suggested by this Reddit user.
This is essentially a starting template for their design; I assure you it will be significantly enhanced and more impressive when seen in the actual anime production.
From my perspective, while the majority of fans appear satisfied with the design, a smaller group seems to feel it’s overly minimalistic. They express their dissatisfaction, suggesting that the creators could have put more effort into the design to meet their expectations.
Another portion of fans simply didn’t like the design or some elements of it:
“We Need JoJo Fridays Back”
One concern arising since the announcement is that some fans aren’t thrilled about the anime becoming a Netflix-exclusive, similar to “Part 6/Stone Ocean”. The way Netflix released Stone Ocean in parts instead of weekly episodes has diminished its visibility for many fans, which they feel is detrimental to the series.
Prior to Season 6, episodes of JoJo were aired weekly, often on Fridays, which prompted fans to engage in discussions online, collectively known as “JoJo Fridays”. However, with Netflix’s release style, all the episodes of Season 6 were made available simultaneously, thus eliminating the traditional experience of having a similar gathering for episode discussions.
From one perspective, Netflix has a broader viewer base than Crunchyroll; however, some viewers are disappointed because Netflix does not release new episodes on a weekly basis, as they believe this approach would generate significantly more excitement and hype for the series.
Keep in mind, Netflix has been trying out the strategy of releasing anime episodes weekly (for instance, “Sakamoto Days”), so it’s possible that Part 7 might be exclusive to Netflix and only broadcast one new episode each week.
When Will JoJo Steel Ball Run Be Released?
As of now, I haven’t received any news regarding a specific air date for the upcoming series, despite anticipation among fans that it might debut in 2026. However, no official confirmation has been made yet.
Additionally, they have yet to announce the primary team behind the series and where it might be broadcast. This implies that as of now, it remains uncertain whether the series will exclusively air on Netflix or can be accessed through other streaming platforms.
For individuals who are just starting to follow the series, “Steel Ball Run” stands out as a fantastic choice because it takes place in an alternate timeline, meaning there’s no need for prior knowledge to appreciate this segment.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is available to stream on Netflix.
