The video clip provides insight into how Obsidian is refining the combat systems for its upcoming sci-fi RPG before The Outer Worlds 2’s scheduled launch this year.
In simple terms, The Outer Worlds 2 is the eagerly awaited solo spin-off that follows Obsidian’s 2019 sci-fi RPG. This new game places players in a distinct solar system with fresh characters. You will take on the role of an Earth Directorate Agent, tasked with unraveling the secret behind fissures that could potentially obliterate the Arcadia star system. Similar to its precursor, The Outer Worlds 2 offers various storylines that adapt according to your decisions. Obsidian’s upcoming sci-fi RPG is scheduled for release in 2025 on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Notably, Game Pass subscribers will have immediate access to it on the first day of its release.
In a chat with IGN, developers from Obsidian Entertainment have revealed some details about the fighting system in their upcoming game, The Outer Worlds 2. This time around, players will be able to perform parkour moves, allowing them to scale or glide across nearby objects for increased agility.
The fighting mechanics are said to be more fluid than in the original 2019 release, with the inclusion of grenades, a wider range of combo possibilities, and an upgraded enemy AI that can now take cover during battle. Players will have the freedom to tailor their gaming experience by choosing tactics such as stealthily taking out enemies before engaging in combat, directing companions into fights, or employing gadgets and tools against adversaries.
To perfect The Outer Worlds 2’s gunplay, Obsidian took inspiration from games like Destiny. They aim to streamline the combat system, introducing new firearms and armor types in the process.
The Outer Worlds 2 Combat System Is More Dynamic Than Its Predecessor
In the upcoming game “The Outer Worlds 2”, character customization is a significant aspect, playing a pivotal role in Obsidian’s space-themed RPG. Players can craft their character, with abilities that shape their gaming experience, using a skill tree system that amplifies gameplay. As per the developer, the colony responds to players’ decisions, creating a unique adventure for each player. Similarly to its predecessor, “The Outer Worlds 2” allows players to recruit diverse companions, each with distinct traits, histories, and objectives, to aid them in battles and enrich their journey.
Although they’ve shared plenty of fresh details about gameplay and advancement, Obsidian Entertainment hasn’t yet disclosed a precise launch date for “The Outer Worlds 2”. All we know so far is that it’s slated for release sometime in 2025. With Xbox Game Studios publishing the sequel, there’s a chance they might share more details during the June Xbox Showcase event. In the meantime, fans can dive back into the original “The Outer Worlds”, which stands among the top-tier futuristic open-world games.
