Summary
- Respawn confirmed Star Wars Jedi 3 is still in development after canceling other projects.
- Respawn is also assisting on Star Wars Zero Company.
Respawn Entertainment recently provided an update about the upcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, assuring fans that it’s still being developed. Currently, several Star Wars games are under development across various studios, with many of them maintaining a low profile since their initial announcements. The third installment in Respawn’s popular Jedi series is among these quiet productions. As of now, details concerning the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor remain limited, but fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing it managed to avoid recent development cuts.
On April 29th, Respawn Entertainment announced that they had scrapped two projects and made certain staff changes. Several reports indicated that these “changes” were layoffs affecting approximately 100 employees. This isn’t the first time the Electronic Arts-owned company has downsized its workforce or halted a game’s development, but they continue to be busy with the development of Star Wars Jedi 3.
In the same tweet where they announced the scrapping of two upcoming games, Respawn Entertainment expressed enthusiasm about continuing to create new Star Wars Jedi tales with the next installment. Although the statement dedicated only a single sentence to this series, it does assure us that work on it is ongoing. A job posting hinted at a third Star Wars Jedi game in 2024, but since then, Respawn has been relatively quiet about the project. This lack of communication might be troubling for some enthusiasts, particularly considering the recent layoffs and cancellations. However, it’s reassuring to know that the project is still being developed, even if the release date and additional details are yet to be revealed.
Respawn Confirms It’s Still Working on Star Wars Jedi 3
Previously mentioned text gives an impression that the cancellations and job losses were primarily to concentrate on two major brands: Star Wars Jedi and Apex Legends. This may imply a potential increase in development for the third installment of the series, though this is uncertain as of now. In 2024, EA scrapped a Star Wars FPS being made by Respawn and allegedly reassigned some members of that team to work on the next Jedi game, so it’s possible that the recent changes could follow a similar pattern, but it’s equally plausible that these layoffs and project cancellations have no impact whatsoever on the development of Jedi 3.
Apart from the upcoming chapter in the Jedi saga, it’s worth mentioning that Respawn Entertainment isn’t limiting its Star Wars endeavors to just that project. In fact, they are jointly developing another title called Star Wars Zero Company, with Bit Reactor playing a more significant role in this one. It appears that Respawn might have a smaller part in the development of this game. With all the changes happening at Respawn right now, it’s hard to predict what the future holds, but fans can take comfort in knowing that Star Wars Jedi 3 is still on its way eventually.
