In August 2023, the role-playing game titled “Sabotage’s Sea of Stars” debuted on both PC and consoles. This game received overwhelming praise, as demonstrated by its “Mighty” rating on OpenCritic, which was based on an average score of 89 and a 97% recommendation rate from reviewers. As a result, it ranked among the top 25 highest-rated games in 2023. Since its release, several updates have been provided to players for free, with the most recent one being “Throes of the Watchmaker”, a DLC themed around a carnival that Sabotage initially planned to launch in spring 2025.
The studio located in Quebec has finally set a definite launch date for the upcoming expansion of Sea of Stars, titled Throes of the Watchmaker DLC. This exciting news was accompanied by a fresh trailer that showcases both cinematic and gameplay footage from Throes of the Watchmaker. New Sea of Stars DLC Revisits Enigmatic Watchmaker
The forthcoming expansion for the game, titled “The Throes of Horloge,” will delve back into one of the key figures in the Sea of Stars tale – the mysterious Watchmaker, architect of the Clockwork Castle. Throughout this DLC’s narrative, players will find themselves investigating Horloge, a miniature clockwork universe under siege by a cursed carnival. This intricate realm is yet another marvel crafted by the Watchmaker, and it appears that the ominous carnival looming over it may be the reason behind the expansion’s title, with “throes” being an old English term for profound turmoil or suffering.
In “Throes of the Watchmaker,” you’ll find a self-contained tale that seems to have little connection with the main retro quest of “Sea of Stars.” This DLC maintains its 90’s JRPG influences, as it introduces two fresh character classes and transforms Zale into a juggler while Valere becomes an acrobat. Additionally, the expansion will present a new playable character named Artificer.
Estimates indicate that playing through “Throes of the Watchmaker” might last approximately eight hours. The forthcoming update brings fresh, fully-voiced cinematics and music from Eric W. Brown, renowned composer of “Sea of Stars”. His soundtrack will include collaborations with Yasunori Mitsuda, famous for his work on “Chrono Trigger” and “Xenogears”, offering a blend of tracks. Similar to previous updates for “Sea of Stars”, “Throes of the Watchmaker” will be offered as a complimentary addition.
