Season 7 of the show The Rookie has been a delightful blend of surprising plotlines and testing personal experiences for our cherished protagonists. Being a follower of ABC’s procedural, I’ve always found the relationship between characters Bailey Nune (played by Jenna Dewan) and John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) particularly engaging. I admire how shows like The Rookie and another widely enjoyed action-packed series, Chicago P.D, depict the challenges these robust and self-assured characters face as they strive to harmonize their personal lives with their professions. Although Nolan’s commitment to righteousness makes him an appealing character, I believe his story would lack intrigue without the captivating interaction he shares with the intelligent and swift-thinking Bailey.
During a recent discussion, Dewan shared insights into an aspect of Bailey and Nolan’s connection, which sparked thoughts in me regarding what I’d like to witness unfold by the conclusion of The Rookie season 7.
Jenna Dewan Discussed Bailey & Nolan’s Adoption Plans & I Hope This Storyline Continues By The Rookie Season 7 Finale

As a passionate cinephile, I recently found myself intrigued by Jenna Dewan’s insights shared during an engaging chat with Us Weekly. She opened up about the potential adoption journey of her characters, Bailey and Nolan, in the hypothetical seventh season of The Rookie.
Dewan said:
For now, it seems they’ve decided against having a baby because they both lead busy lives and feel they can’t provide the necessary care and attention a newborn requires.
She continued:
They understand the importance of timing, and it seems that the present moment might not be the ideal one.
In the 13th episode of season 7 of “The Rookie,” entitled “Three Billboards,” we delve into Bailey and Nolan’s tumultuous adoption journey, and I hope they receive some positive news before the end of the season. However, by the end of this well-crafted episode, a social worker informs them that their lifestyle is risky and complex, making it unlikely for approval. Although this assessment might be accurate, it’s disheartening. Given that “The Rookie” typically maintains an upbeat and hopeful atmosphere, I find this conclusion to be incongruous with the series’ usual narrative direction.
Instead of having to abandon their dreams of starting a family at the end of “Three Billboards,” could there be an alternative route for Bailey and Nolan? Perhaps a social worker reconsiders their circumstances, looking past their high-risk jobs. However, I acknowledge that might not occur. If adopting a child is not an option, maybe someone from Bailey or Nolan’s past reappears in their lives and requests them to care for a baby or young child. This turn of events would likely be filled with tragedy and heartbreak but could also profoundly alter the couple’s lives in numerous impactful ways. By the time they were prepared to formally adopt the child, it is hoped that everyone would recognize them as nurturing individuals capable of raising a child effectively.
If the seventh season of “The Rookie” doesn’t conclude with any character adopting or having a child, it would be intriguing to explore this storyline further in season 8. The captivating police drama is loved by many due to its balance between gripping cases in each episode and the personal struggles of the main characters. Given Bailey and Nolan’s ongoing challenges, especially Bailey’s complicated relationship with her ex-husband Jason Wyler (played by Steve Kazee), it would be a missed opportunity if they never become parents.
What Else Could Happen At The End Of The Rookie Season 7?

In the remaining episodes of this season of The Rookie, we have a few installments left. Last night, episode 16 of season 7 was broadcasted. Alongside further developments in Bailey and Nolan’s discussions about parenthood, fans might anticipate more twists regarding the intense relationship between characters Lucy Chen (played by Melissa O’Neil) and Tim Bradford (portrayed by Eric Winter).
During an interview with TV Line, the show’s producer, Alexi Hawley, hinted that we’ll discover whether Lucy has successfully completed her test for promotion to the rank of sergeant in the near future.
By the close of the season, we’ll have our response and perhaps there will be an element of narrative along with it.
Following the heartfelt moment in season 7 episode 15 of The Rookie, where Lucy forgives Tim, it’s challenging for fans not to hope they rekindle their relationship by the end of season 7. Fingers crossed, we’ll find out more about this soon. Although their relationship may continue as a puzzle, there’s no question that season 8 will offer more thrilling moments, emotional turmoil, and Nolan’s classic one-liners.
