Summary
- The next Super Smash Bros. game will likely feature fresh faces from third parties.
- Yakuza games coming to Nintendo consoles open the door for Kiryu to be featured on the roster.
- Multiple Sega characters are already on the Smash roster, so it would make sense for Kiryu to join them.
It hasn’t been confirmed yet by Nintendo, but we can expect a new installment of the “Super Smash Bros.” series, and if so, it would be fantastic to see Kazuma Kiryu, a popular character from the “Yakuza” or “Like a Dragon” series, included among the playable characters. Originally a celebration of Nintendo’s gaming history, “Super Smash Bros.” has evolved to include characters and stages from various other game franchises as well, even those from rival companies.
It’s a good bet that the upcoming “Super Smash Bros.” game will follow suit. As of now, it’s undecided whether the new “Super Smash Bros.” game will include all characters from the previous “Ultimate” edition or introduce new ones, but it’s almost certain that there will be some fresh characters to play with. Every installment of “Super Smash Bros.” has introduced new playable characters for players to experiment with, and it seems highly unlikely that the next “Super Smash Bros.” game will buck this trend.
Once the Nintendo Switch 2 is officially presented, you can bet that news about the upcoming “Super Smash Bros.” game won’t lag too far behind. Regularly, new characters will be introduced for the roster, building anticipation towards the game’s release, but it remains to be seen which ones will make an appearance. As for third-party characters, I believe Kazuma Kiryu from the popular “Yakuza” series is a must-have addition. Kiryu’s diverse fighting styles could contribute to an exclusive set of moves in “Super Smash Bros.”, and since Sega appears eager to extend its long-lived franchise onto Nintendo platforms, incorporating Kiryu into the game would be a smart move for introducing him to new fans and possibly piquing their interest in his games.
Kiryu Would Be Perfect for Super Smash Bros.
Last year, the game “Yakuza Kiwami” was transferred to the Nintendo Switch, and there are many other “Yakuza” games that could follow suit. Given that the upcoming Switch 2 is expected to be more powerful than the initial Switch model, it might pave the way for the entire “Yakuza” series to find a home on this console gradually. Sega has not revealed any titles for the Switch 2 as of yet, but considering the potential fit, “Yakuza” ports seem like a logical decision.
For many years, Nintendo and Sega were fierce competitors, but over the past couple of decades, they have transformed into excellent collaborators. Intriguingly, Sega has even permitted some of its characters to appear in the popular game series, Super Smash Bros. Joker, a character from Sega, was downloadable content for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, while Sonic the Hedgehog has been included in every game since Brawl on the Wii. Although the M rating of the Yakuza franchise and Kiryu’s smoking habits might have posed challenges previously, Super Smash Bros. has a history of incorporating characters from M-rated games. As one of gaming’s most renowned figures, Kiryu seems like an ideal candidate for Super Smash Bros., given his iconic status.
