As a lifelong retro gaming enthusiast who has spent countless hours tinkering with emulators and hunting down long-lost cartridges, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about AntStream Arcade’s expansion to PS4 and PS5 consoles! The prospect of effortlessly accessing over 1,300 classic games from the comfort of my couch is almost too good to be true.

AntStream Arcade, an external retro game streaming platform, is set to debut on both PS4 and PS5 gaming consoles in the near future. AntStream Arcade offers a subscription-based gaming experience, where for $39.99 annually or $99.99 for a lifetime pass, users gain access to over 1,300 classic video games hosted on the cloud. With its upcoming availability on the PlayStation Store, enthusiasts of retro gaming will instantly have access to an expansive collection of new games to explore, without the inconvenience of dealing with adapters, emulators, or ROMs.

Approximately a year ago, AntStream Arcade debuted on Xbox consoles and has since garnered positive feedback from users. This development also allowed for the playability of some classic PlayStation 1 games like “Hogs of War” and “Worms” on Xbox systems. AntStream’s library extends beyond these titles, offering games originally released on platforms such as NES, Sega Genesis, Atari Lynx, Amiga, and many more. The cloud-based gaming service adds around two new games to its collection every week, bringing the current count to over 1,357 titles.

At AntStream’s Arcade Connect event on August 14th, we got some exciting news! It seems that AntStream’s streaming service is soon coming to PS4 and PS5 consoles. However, during the presentation, CEO Steve Cottam said it was already available, but as I write this, it can only be wishlisted on the PlayStation Store. Regardless, the arrival of AntStream Arcade will be a first for third-party cloud streaming services within the PlayStation community, and I’m sure retro gaming enthusiasts like me will be thrilled!

What Does AntStream Arcade Have on Offer?

Also during the presentation, AntStream gave a preview of the retro games that subscribers can expect to see added to the service now or in the near future, including Gun Force 2, Tiger Shark, and Doodle World. But AntStream also now offers new retro indie games, such as ones created with PICO-8 Fantasy Console. In August, the platform is adding two PICO-8-developed titles: Puzzles of the Paladin and Mad Bomber. These games retain the classic 8-bit aesthetic that retro gamers appreciate, but also have the potential to integrate modern-day quality-of-life considerations that are sometimes noticeably missing from games created decades ago.

AntStream Arcade, a cloud-based gaming platform that caters to retro enthusiasts, has expanded its reach to PlayStation. Previously accessible on Xbox, PC, Epic Games Store, iOS, Android, Samsung TVs, and Amazon Fire TV, this service offers more than just gameplay. It boasts an active Discord community where gamers can engage in mini challenges and participate in global tournaments. Additionally, AntStream prioritizes video game preservation, recognizing the growing scarcity of classic games available for purchase.
