A Gears of War: E-Day, Halo Infinite Collaboration Would Be a Match Made in Heaven

As someone who’s spent countless hours immersed in the intricate worlds of both Halo and Gears of War, I can confidently say that a crossover between these two titans of Xbox gaming is long overdue. The potential for storytelling, character development, and sheer fun is immense.

E-Day, offering unique and entertaining possibilities.

The History of Halo and Gears of War Collaborations

In the early 21st century, both “Halo” and “Gears of War” played crucial roles in establishing Xbox as a thriving brand. “Halo: Combat Evolved,” the original Xbox’s standout title, captivated players with its immersive storyline and engaging gameplay right from the start. “Halo 2” took online multiplayer to new heights and kept audiences hooked with its intricate narrative, especially through the Arbiter character. Although “Gears of War 1” didn’t debut alongside the Xbox 360, it was launched early enough to become one of the console’s earliest best-sellers and remained one of the most popular multiplayer games until “Halo 3” arrived. The gritty narrative of “Gears of War,” along with its signature chainsaw lancer and innovative cover system, ensured that the Xbox 360 would become a commercial success.

During the Xbox 360’s era, numerous Halo and Gears of War games were launched, but it wasn’t until the Xbox One era that these two franchises would officially meet in combat. The 2013 Killer Instinct reboot was the initial platform where these exclusive Xbox characters clashed in deadly battles. In Killer Instinct’s third season, characters like the Arbiter Thel ‘Vadam and General RAAM were introduced as DLC fighters. This allowed fans to witness the fierce encounter between one of the galaxy’s deadliest Elites (Sangheili) from Halo and one of Sera’s most ruthless Locust soldiers (General RAAM). In addition, both characters could be customized to resemble other ranks of Elites and Locust soldiers, such as the Zealots and Theron Guards from Halo: Reach.

Gears 5’s Halo: Reach Collab Explained

2019’s “Gears 5” was the initial “Gears of War” game to present playable characters who were not part of the wars on Sera. This innovation started with the addition of characters like the T-800 and Sarah Connor from “Terminator: Dark Fate”, as well as Catherine-B320 and Emile-A239 from “Halo: Reach”. These Spartan 3s could be acquired by buying either the “Halo: Reach” character pack or the “Gears 5” Ultimate Edition. Both Spartans were playable across Horde, Versus, and Escape game modes. Additionally, Kat and Emile came with their unique ultimate abilities, such as a drop shield similar to the bubble shield armor ability from “Halo: Reach”, and a hologram reminiscent of the hologram armor ability.

In the game Gears 5, Jamie Hector and Alona Tal, who originally voiced Emile and Kat in Halo: Reach, returned to reprise their roles. However, Keith David, who previously voiced the Arbiter in Killer Instinct, was replaced by Ray Chase in this instance.

Halo Infinite’s Potential Crossover with Gears of War: E-Day

Ever since the release of Gears 5, there hasn’t been any collaboration between Halo and Gears of War. But it would be exciting if Halo Studios and The Coalition could team up again for the upcoming launch of Gears of War: E-Day. They might consider integrating more Halo characters into the multiplayer mode of E-Day, like Master Chief, Agent Locke, or Atriox. Master Chief and Locke could have gameplay similar to regular COG soldiers, while Atriox could be like Locust troops. The developers at The Coalition could also design new skins based on the Halo universe to complement these characters, such as a chainsaw lancer with red or blue energy, evoking memories of the Covenant and Banished’s iconic energy swords. However, this collaboration doesn’t have to be limited to just Gears of War: E-Day; it could extend to other aspects of the game as well.

The alliance might partner with Halo Studios to craft a fresh Fracture armor centerpiece for the game ‘Halo Infinite’, showcasing innovative Spartan armor designs reminiscent of those donned by COG and Locust soldiers. Previously, Fracture armor cores like Yoroi and Eaglestrike were inspired by other Halo universes; this Gears armor core could represent a universe where conflicts similar to Sera’s wars took place. By doing so, players of Halo could don Spartan armor styled after the iconic looks of the Carmine brothers, elite Onyx Guards, and deadly Theron Guards. This partnership could mark the first time Xbox’s cherished franchises, Halo and Gears, are combined in an unprecedented manner, potentially stirring up more excitement for both game series.
