A Leaked Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Evolution Would Join a Rare Club

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Pokémon experience under my belt, I must admit that I’m both excited and intrigued by the latest revelations about Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The prospect of Mega Evolutions for not one but two Mythical Pokémon – Zygarde and Zeraora – is truly tantalizing.

At present, there isn’t a great deal of concrete information available regarding “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”. In a Pokemon Presents event earlier this year, Game Freak only unveiled a 2-minute CGI trailer for the successor to “Legends: Arceus”. However, they did disclose that “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, set for release in 2025, will bring back the Mega Evolution mechanic and be centered entirely within Kalos’s Lumiose City, the region inspired by France, which was the main setting for the 2013 3DS games “Pokemon X” and “Y”. As of now, this is about all that has been confirmed officially about “Legends: Z-A”.

On October 13, 2024, a massive data breach occurred at Game Freak, resulting in over a terabyte of confidential files being made publicly available. This leak exposed a variety of sensitive information, including employee personal details, game source codes, development builds, and even canceled projects. Dubbed the “Teraleak” by fans, this incident also revealed some previously unknown details about Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Notably, it appears that the game will introduce at least two new Mega Evolutions, one for Zygarde and one for Zeraora. If these plans aren’t changed, Mega Zeraora would be one of the first Pokémon types to feature this kind of transformation in the Pokemon series.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Rumored Mega Zeraora May Be One of the First Mega Evolutions of Its Kind

Zeraora is an Electric-Type Mythical Pokemon That First Appeared in Generation 7

Zeraora, the Electric-type Pokemon, stands out with some distinctive traits. Unlike many other Pokemons in the series, it didn’t appear at the beginning of a generation; instead, its first appearance was in the enhanced versions of 2017’s Pokemon Sun and Moon, specifically Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. In the game’s Pokedex, Zeraora is known as the Thunderclap Pokemon, suggesting it generates lightning when it runs. This swift, yellow-and-black Pokemon doesn’t belong to an evolutionary chain; in other words, it can’t evolve into or from any other form. This is because Zeraora falls under the category of Mythical Pokemons.

Mythical Pokemon are Incredibly Rare, and Only One of Them Has a Mega Evolution

In case you’re not familiar, Mythical Pokémon are extraordinarily scarcely found creatures within the world of Pokémon. They’re so elusive that their very presence is sometimes debated. These unique pocket monsters have been part of the series since its inception with the games “Pokemon Red” and “Blue”. In the first game, Mew was classified as a Mythical Pokémon. Since then, an additional 23 Mythical Pokémon have been added to the franchise. Examples include Arceus, Meloetta, Darkrai, Shaymin, Zarude, and Pecharunt. Unlike most Pokémon, none of these Mythical creatures can evolve into any other form, with the exception of Meltan.

Among all the mythical Pokémon, only one can undergo Mega Evolution, and that’s Diancie. This Rock/Fairy type character debuted in both _Pokemon X_ and _Pokemon Y_, games where the Mega Evolution mechanic was first introduced. Compared to its original form, Mega Diancie is significantly stronger due to increased attack stats. While it might not have the best Mega Evolution form in _Pokemon X_ and _Y_, it’s still quite robust for what it does.

Zeraora May Join Diancie in Being a Mythical Pokemon With a Mega Evolution

In the event that the game Pokemon Legends: Z-A indeed includes Mega Zeraora, this Electric-type Mythical Pokémon would be the second to gain a Mega Evolution form, after Diancie. Since Zeraora is native to Alola, it will be intriguing to discover why it appears in Lumiose City and how, among all Pokémon, it can undergo Mega Evolution. It’s possible that Game Freak could make Zeraora a crucial component of the plot in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, although this is merely speculative.
