As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the MediEvil franchise has always held a special place in my heart. The quirky hack-and-slash series, though not as popular as some other PlayStation exclusives, has left an indelible mark on the gaming community.

The MediEvil video game series, known for its games that evoke strong feelings of nostalgia among many players, is a collection of hack-and-slash titles exclusive to PlayStation. Although it may not have scaled the heights of other Sony mainstays, it has carved out a niche as a cult favorite. In 2019, MediEvil was reintroduced when developer Other Ocean Emeryville took on the task of remaking the game. The idea of experiencing a revamped version of MediEvil was intriguing, but the finished product didn’t live up to expectations in every aspect.

In terms of PlayStation series, MediEvil is relatively modest but generated a lot of buzz for its remake. The standout feature of the MediEvil remake was undeniably its graphics. Studio Other Ocean Emeryville did an exceptional job at modernizing MediEvil’s appearance while maintaining its original essence. However, the gameplay experience was a different story altogether. Despite the visuals being top-notch, MediEvil played like a game from the PS1 era. This might have evoked a nostalgic feeling for some gamers, but returning to the mechanics of that era after years of control advancements felt disjointed. With whispers of a potential MediEvil 2 remake, developers should address the shortcomings of the initial remake.

MediEvil 2 Can Improve Upon the Mistakes of MediEvil

Elevating MediEvil’s Gameplay to Meet Its Graphics

Back in April, whispers about a potential MediEvil 2 remake started circulating. I had high hopes that we might catch a glimpse of it during the PlayStation Showcase, but alas, no MediEvil 2 remake was unveiled. This doesn’t necessarily mean the remake is off the table entirely; there’s still a chance it could be in development.

One standout feature of the game “MediEvil” is Sir Daniel Fortesque, the quirky skeleton with a distinctive overbite who serves as the main character. To this day, Sir Daniel remains an impressive example of well-designed characters, and his appearance was further refined in the 2019 remake. If there were to be a remake of “MediEvil 2”, the visuals would likely be handled with ease, given the success of the original. However, it is crucial that the control system matches the high standards set by the graphics.

Despite the issues with controls, the MediEvil remake was a great start at reviving the franchise, but MediEvil 2 can do even better. Of course, MediEvil is a product of its time, but that doesn’t mean the controls and mechanics have to stay stuck in the dark ages. Taking the time and effort to make MediEvil‘s controls less cumbersome and feel more satisfying and snappy can be done with a sequel remake, and hopefully, there is enough of a demand for Other Ocean Emeryville to make a MediEvil 2 remake a reality.

If MediEvil 2 Happens, It Can Hopefully Reignite the Franchise

Although the initial remake of MediEvil didn’t resonate as much as Other Ocean Emeryville had hoped, there remains potential for the franchise. If a remake of MediEvil 2 comes to fruition, it could pave the way for the anticipated third installment of the series. To date, a third MediEvil game has yet to be produced, but with both games receiving remakes, particularly the improved second one, it could rejuvenate interest in this PlayStation exclusive.

In conclusion, the revamped version of “MediEvil” stayed true to its roots while offering stunning new graphics to gamers. Despite some issues with the controls and camera, these aspects have been enhanced for a smoother experience. The improvements suggest that refining the gameplay of “MediEvil 2” is feasible. A remake of “MediEvil 2” may not be flawless, but it’s worth attempting to resurrect one of PlayStation’s oldest series and shine a light on it once again.
