A Metal Gear Solid Game Was Delisted From the Xbox Store

As a huge Metal Gear fan, I just noticed something really strange. Konami has taken the HD version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker off the Xbox Store! It was originally a PSP game from 2010, and then came to PS3 and Xbox 360 as part of the HD Collection in 2011. Now, with Konami planning to re-release Peace Walker again, they’re quietly removing the original version from some digital stores. It’s a bit odd, and definitely disappointing for anyone who wanted to grab the HD version on Xbox!

It’s been over ten years since a brand new Metal Gear Solid game was released, but the series is still going strong. Last year, Konami released Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the beloved 2004 game. This version updates the graphics and gameplay for modern consoles while staying true to the original story and adding accessibility features. Konami is also re-releasing older Metal Gear Solid titles on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC through Master Collection bundles, with the second bundle coming out later this year.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Is No Longer Available on the Xbox Store

Okay, so Konami finally showed off Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 2 during their State of Play last week, and I’m super hyped! It means Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is finally coming off the PlayStation 3 and to other platforms! Plus, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is getting a modern release on consoles and PC, which is awesome. But here’s the weird part – it looks like Konami already started taking Peace Walker down from digital stores. I went to grab it on Xbox, and the HD version is totally gone from the Xbox Store. It used to be available on both Xbox 360 and newer consoles through backwards compatibility, but now it’s nowhere to be found on either PlayStation or Xbox. That’s a little frustrating, honestly.

It’s not unexpected – publishers frequently encourage players to buy the latest versions of games – but it’s still frustrating for those who enjoy the original releases. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 2 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on August 27, 2026. However, some players might be hesitant about this second collection, as the first launch was plagued with bugs and performance problems. Konami has since released updates for Volume 1, but the special code for Metal Gear Solid 4 that was exclusive to the PS3 has always been a key reason why that game remained on that platform. As a result, fans are likely to approach Volume 2 with caution.

So, I’m really excited about Volume 2 of the Master Collection, and it sounds like Konami is trying hard to keep everything as close to the originals as possible. But there’s a bummer – Metal Gear Solid 4 won’t have its online multiplayer. The original game came with Metal Gear Online, which was awesome with up to 16 players and a bunch of different modes. I was hoping they’d bring that back like they did with Metal Gear Solid 3, but Konami has confirmed it won’t be included. They straight up said on their website that this version of MGS4 doesn’t have Metal Gear Online, which is a real shame.

Konami recently announced Master Collection Volume 2 and also released an update for the original Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1. This update includes several improvements for the games, such as updated textures, new resolution options, compatibility with the Nintendo Switch 2, and various bug fixes.
