A New Final Fantasy 14 Glitch is Being Compared to Pokemon’s MissingNo

Players of Final Fantasy 14 have discovered a strange, unexpected enemy they’re calling MissingNo. This creature appears as a normal monster, but its unusual characteristics suggest it wasn’t meant to be in the game. Players have drawn comparisons to the famous glitch from the original Pokemon Red and Blue.

The latest update, patch 7.4, has arrived for Final Fantasy 14, bringing the conclusion of the Arcadion raid series, some changes to character jobs, and new items to purchase. Unfortunately, it also seems an unintended issue slipped into the update and hasn’t been addressed yet.

Final Fantasy 14 Players Flock to ‘MissingNo’

Shortly after the recent game update, players noticed something unusual in the Coerthas Western Highlands. They found that after defeating the regular Steinbock enemies, a level 1 doe would appear in a specific spot. This was already strange, considering all other creatures in the area are much higher level, but the most peculiar thing was that this doe had no name displayed.

Since its discovery, players have been rushing to see this strange creature, located at coordinates X: 32, Y: 32 in the Coerthas Western Highlands. Some players joke that it’s already gained a dedicated following, while others are calling it “MissingNo,” referencing a similar glitch from the original Pokemon Red and Blue. Unlike that earlier glitch, this creature doesn’t seem to offer any gameplay advantages. However, it shares some notable similarities – it has a strange level and no visible name. When players try to interact with it using emotes or initiate battle, the game displays messages like “Player pats the …” instead of a creature name.

Players are speculating about the appearance of this unusual enemy, but Square Enix hasn’t officially explained it. Many think it might be related to the new Beastmaster job coming soon, which will allow players to control creatures they normally fight. This “MissingNo” Steinbock doesn’t appear to have any special powers or attacks, but one player reported encountering a large group of them.

While unusual glitches aren’t common in Final Fantasy 14, players have been sharing stories of strange things they’ve found and lost over the years. These have often been minor issues, like messed-up graphics or the famously blocky grapes. But one memorable incident happened about ten years ago when players discovered a bear floating in the air – it quickly became known as “Skybear.” The developers fixed the glitch quickly, but it stuck in the minds of many players and remains a fondly remembered moment.

Square Enix knows about a bug in Final Fantasy 14 where some enemies are appearing in the wrong location in Coerthas. They mentioned it in the notes for patch 7.4, suggesting a fix is coming soon. However, the fix was delayed because of major issues with the Occult Crescent: South Horn area, which had to be temporarily closed for emergency repairs. If you want to see this unusual glitch, it’s best to check it out before the next scheduled maintenance.
