A Pokemon Card Was Sent Into Space

Beckett, a well-known card grading service, and Dragon Shield, a maker of card accessories, have launched a Pokémon card into space. The card was exposed to harsh conditions, including extreme temperatures and strong winds. The Pokémon Trading Card Game has become a hugely popular hobby worldwide, generating hundreds of millions of dollars annually. It’s especially popular right now in 2025, thanks to successful card sets like “Prismatic Evolutions” and “Mega Evolution.” This recent launch sent one Pokémon card on an incredible journey into orbit.

As a big Pokemon card collector, I’ve noticed how prices have been going up and up! A lot of us are now getting our cards “graded” – basically, professionally assessed – to figure out how valuable they are. It’s a really detailed process where experts look at everything, from the corners of the card to any little mistakes that might have happened when it was made. Companies like Beckett and PSA have become super well-known and trusted in the Pokemon community for doing this. Now, one of these grading companies is really putting its standards to the test!

Pokemon Card Sent into Space

Beckett, a well-known card grading service, and Dragon Shield, a maker of card accessories, launched a Pokemon trading card into space. They worked with the company Sent Into Space to see how well Dragon Shield’s card sleeves would protect a card during a trip to the Earth’s atmosphere. The card, which had already received a perfect grade from Beckett, was securely attached to a special mount on a spacecraft and protected by a standard card holder and three of Dragon Shield’s sleeves. After the flight, Beckett re-examined the card and confirmed it still deserved a perfect grade.

A recent event—sending a Pokémon card into space—highlights just how popular Pokémon has become. Starting as a video game, Pokémon has grown into a huge entertainment franchise with success in games, trading cards, and more. Pokémon video games remain incredibly popular, with the latest release, Pokémon Legends Z-A, selling almost 6 million copies in its first week alone.

The future looks very promising for the Pokemon franchise, with lots of exciting things happening in its various areas. Recently, Pokemon Legends: Z-A shared details about its upcoming “Mega Dimension” downloadable content, planned for release in early December. The Pokemon Trading Card Game is also preparing a new set called “Phantasmal Flames,” which will bring back the popular Mega Charizard card. Adding to the franchise’s impressive history, a Pokemon card recently even made the journey to space!
